I read that Isak had a poor injury record so I went and looked. He's been at Newcastle for 3 seasons and basically been injured for one whole season out of the 3 with 39 games missed. Great player, no doubt but we don't need any more injury prone players.

Roger whose post you've quoted there has already clarified that he was trying to describe making a back when he said that. Leaning in happens all the time. Lots of players do it. Making a back, not so much.
yes but the original didn't read that way to me due to the use of "lean" rather that "back" hence my post.
Was not me. I haven't an opinion on Kane.

I think it's a moot point anyway. If we're not going to give Salah a big contract we're sure as hell going to give one to Kane, who is only a year younger

We're talking about making a back. I don't think Diaz has done that. He's certainly getting more aggressive and tackling harder but I've not seen him trying to tip anyone.

100% did it this season. Just need to find the game.

Forest maybe

I can recall it being out w9de and he for sure backed in

Diaz has certainly backed in or been late for a challenge (had a tendency to look at the man rather than the ball too) but I've not seen him intentionally tip a player.

Mane 100% did it

Loved Mane and Robbo on that left-hand side in their pomp. I do think Mane could have been developed as a No 6 in his later years. He could certainly tackle. Brave as a lion. Never lost all his pace.

Newcastle fan (just popped in to get my daily Isak news). I think most clubs have a player or two who do something like this (for us it's Joelinton who is a proper filthy player - though I love him I'm not going to deny he takes it too far and needs to reign it in a bit).

I think Kane does it more often, it's pretty expected he'll do it, whereas others it's more of an occasional event. It's like diving. All clubs have players that do it but there's some in the league who you're just expecting it of at every opportunity.

As for his skills I honestly think Kane would get a spot at any EPL team. He's doing well at Bayern and they'd be a good shout to win our league this season (no slight meant on Liverpool as you deserve to win it and can only beat who you're up against but I think your team of 4-5 years ago would wipe the floor with your current team).

The team 3 years ago would wipe the floor with this team, never mind the 2019 team that got 97 points but still never won the league (that will never happen again, though the 2022 tean I refer to got 93 points an didn't win it either).

I found Mané to be the most frustrating of the front three. He and Salah took equal turns at being selfish and also missing 'easy' chances. Mané would not fall over when he could have done (ie when he'd legitimately been fouled hard) but then would go down when he'd barely been touched. The penalties he could have won ....<laugh>

Perhaps, but as I say, we could feel safer down our left flank knowing the winger came back and actually defended like a midfielder, as opposed to just a performative marking of space, and the fullback didn't do a peripatetic journey around the whole pitch except for where he should be, and also challenged bigger forwards in the air at the back post rather than being rag-dolled like a limp fanny. :emoticon-0143-smirk

Not the wording I would have chosen but I broadly agree :emoticon-0126-nerd:

Quelle surprise. To get Isak we're going to have to sell half the squad, evidently, as the club appears to be heading for another net-zero transfer window. Meanwhile, Chelsea overspent by a billion but avoided any action over PSR by selling their woman's team to.... themselves.

All is good here - FSG are in total control. :emoticon-0138-think

Hardly surprising that we aren't prepared to bust the premier league transfer record by 30% to get a Isak is it?

Missing out on Caicedo meant the money we would have spent on him, sorted out our midfield. Any saving on a potential fee for Isak, sorts out the wings and another forward. I know which I would rather spend the money on.

No. tbf, and I've said that further up the thread. Just a bit pissed that we seem to be moving towards another zero sum transfer window. I'll be ecstatic to be proved wrong. :emoticon-0108-speec
