Kuyt and Nunez couldn't be more different. Yeah, they're both forwards and played for Liverpool, but Nunez is pacy, whereas Kuyt was a workhorse. Nunez pretty much focuses on attack (although Slot has him being more cautious than Klopp did)- It wouldn't be unusual to see Kuyt come all the way back to help a full back defend, he was almost played more as a right midfielder at times. Darwin is passionate and hot-headed, Kuyt was calm and collected. Darwin was an expensive star with great expectations on his shoulder... But the real reason you can't really compare their stats. Nunez walked into a Liverpool team that was full of stars and a main attraction. Kuyt joined a Liverpool team that was underdogs, trying to turn things around and become big again. When Kuyt was in the team, we were hoping to qualify 4th each season. With Darwin we're hoping to challenge for the title each season. Nunez has better quality around him and so SHOULD be getting more assists and more goals than Kuyt.

That said, despite being very different players, I think Darwin and Dirk, to me, are overall about equally valuable in their respective eras. So why is Kuyt lauded as a hero while Darwin is a villain? We expect far more now than we did during the Kuyt era- also Kuyt wasn't nearly as expensive- also when you're being compared to Salah it's far harder to shine than when you're being compared to Ryan Babel and Yossi Benayoun.

Benayoun probably wouldn't get any game time with our current squad... he wouldn't get into any of Klopp's teams either... but compared to most of the attacking players we had in that time frame he was pretty decent.

Our team today would destroy our team of 2008ish

But we've just demonstrated that Nunes has more goals and assists per game than Dirk.

People also conveniently forgetting that Kuyt also played with Gerrard, Suarez and Torres across his LFC career. He didn't play with dross.
 
I think people are more fond of Kuyt now as he’s had his day and he’s gone. At the time most fans were saying he isn’t good enough

didn't say he was great , though great is a very exclusive club , but he was ****ing miles better than the ****stain that is Joe spoofer Cole

oh and he was actually a very useful player

Tbh, even if it's true I think we'd be insane to let him go for £70m, let alone £85m, if we don't have replacements lined up. But I wouldn't put it past these shysters to do just that. :emoticon-0112-wonde

Being linked with Greek striker Stefanos Tzimas. Currently on loan at 2nd division Germany club but scoring plenty goals.

They have buy option for 18m which looks like they’ll trigger and then sell on in the summer for profit so looking at least 25m if not more. Lot of money for 19 year old who hasn’t played in a top league.

spend big on a player no better than danns and then sell danns. Danns has played a toal of 15 less senior games than this lad.

Danns has 18 goals and 4 assists at u18s level in 27 games. he's 6 goals in 6 game at youth cup level. he has 3 goals in 2 games in the fa cup proper.

Thats modern football. Danns could go on loan to a good club with a manager actually willing to play him and score exactly what this other lad has (8 in 14 games with 2 assists)

Will danns then be worth more?

Don't develop your own. you get to write off transfer fees over time but then get pure profit off selling a young player. Modern football.
