I'm not convinced by him because I've never seen his teams play. Big name, small name, medium name... doesn't matter. (although I'd have more likely seen his teams play if big name)... I'm holding out judgement until I've seen how he does. That's holding off positive AND negative judgement.
It would be a shame, especially with him being a local and vice captain, but I don't see him as irreplaceable. He's a good player, but it does solve the headache of where to place him so defence doesn't suffer.
I think it would be a shame for several reasons. 1. Real Madrid
2. He's a season or two off being the captain of his boyhood club 3. I'm interested to see where Slot plays him 4. Didn't have him down for leaving at our time of need I think he'll sign a new contract and be flattered that he was good enough for Real and they wanted him (despite what we think of them).
