Are we so badly off?
We've brought in two younger, dynamic players who replace two who hardly played and two whose reduced minutes hardly made up one full player, so I don't think we're that desperate, tbh.
The real midfield requirement is a solid, reliable DM - the others we can cope with (apart from injuries, of course).

the very fact that the players who left early for free didn’t play much led to the demise of our season and first team players. Imo we need quality AND depth PLUS the developing kids or top 4 will be hard, never mind winning it.

that said, we aren’t a million miles away from that currently. But we are defo short of experience at #6 when Fab goes.

DM definitely, no argument there.
With the rest, I'm thinking of what's achievable rather than what we'd choose in an ideal world. I don't see us paying £50m or whatever on someone to thicken out the squad. DM apart, pick the best 15 from what we have, and the rest are likely to be more modest buys, or young players on the way up.
We'll always struggle to keep up with City when we don't have their squad depth, but that's how it is and that's unlikely to be changing in the foreseeable future.

no idea
i don't really watch foreign football and unless we are involved if i do watch for example BL highlights i don't really pay attention to who did what i just watch a game of football.
Gomez out to RB and when injured
Milner…. Oh wait
Hendo… oh wait
Fab into CB … has he gone yet lol ?
Yeah you could be right dude lol

At £200k a week, that's over £10m per year.
Just on a years wages that's set up for life smart investment. Stick it in a savings account at 5% even and he's earning $500k per year.

Even with foundations, they stick a chunk in and use the interest to pay for good causes and it keeps itself going forever.

He's probably going to need to pay for special security (at least while he is still famous). He will probably have several homes which each cost several million. Pay people to do his lawn and weed his flower beds, maybe pay people to clean his houses. Expensive vacations, trips to his charity destinations, etc. Oh yeah, and I'm sure some will go to charity.

You or I could live at our lifestyle levels for well under £500k per year and live off that interest... He has been living a much more luxurious lifestyle and is accustomed to it.

Eating out at a fancy restaurant with your friends and family who all expect you to catch the bill and buy drinks could easily run thousands at a time. His dining expenses alone will probably be more than you or I make in a year.

Yes all this is frivolous luxury that he doesn't "need", most people go without... but if you're used to that and see having to give it up in "retirement" it might be tough to swallow....that £500k per year wouldn't cover it as easily as £5 mill a year. £500k per year only looks "unlimited" because you don't have that much money to know how to waste it.

you have made the rookie error.

nobody keeps the money in the bank or under a mattress and just spends it a bit at a time.

they all have oodles of cash that makes more oodles of cash.

plus you've missed the key one. 4mil a year to prattle on on sky tv about whatever.

Cant imagine the whole of midfield would take a major rebuild with only 2 signings whilst releasing the ones that we did. Surely this alludes to some other signings incoming or it wont be a stable base to work from going into the season.

Trouble is, everyone knows we need midfielders

I don't think we need a Hendo replacement. His best position was the RCM role and we've got plenty that can play there (and LCM); Zobo, AMC, Thiago, Jones, Elliott (that's five into two) plus youngsters and maybe Trent too.

Hendo offered a backup option to Fabinho at DM, that's where we need fresh blood. If Fabinho leaves too, we really will be staying to look desperate and prices for anyone we show an interest in will go up.

Maybe that's why the Fabinho and Hendo stuff have dragged on a little bit.

Not at all... The concept was that if they had enough money to earn 500k in interest a year would that be enough... I would say to maintain the lifestyle they are used to it's not nearly enough. Of course the money is out earning more money... But there is no stage of income for a footballer where earning twice as much wouldn't help them live an even more extravagant lifestyle.
