We need 3 midfielders because we are losing that many aren’t we? Perhaps Trent being an option will bring that down to two new midfielders.

when we buy said midfielders we need between the two or three signings (1) more pace (2) more height (we are a small team) (3) ability to break lines by running with the ball and (4) ability to assist (creativity) (5) ability to press intelligently and win tackles

It’s worrying how few of these our current lot have!

No.

That's not correct at all.

He was tasked with starting the press, just like firmino used to, the point of that press is not to win the ball, its to hurry the defender, if the defender looks up and has 3 lads stood waiting with no one around him, that's not Elliott issue, it's nunez, who is quite frankly ****e at it. Salah not being arsed, or gakpo not knowing what to.

I'm unsure why in a malfunctioning midfield and forward line you've decided one of our best performers is ****e.

It's mystifying

yep….can’t blame Elliott for that…..this is why losing Mane hurt us so much, then losing Diaz and Jota compounded the issue. Hopefully the new forwards and new midfielders are more aligned next season.

I think that Elliott has a really good future but I cannot decide exactly where quite yet, shame his pace is not all that as he would step into Salah’s shoes.

Lol who is writing anyone off / moaning / hating? I'm not saying Harvey is a bad player - I think he's insanely talented. It's about finding the right role for him.

it's just the usual lazy dig.

same as daring say mane took 4 chances to score. stating the actual fact doesn't suit.

Elliott can't tackle. neither could Paul Scholes btw.

what Paul scholes could do was shuffle 5 yards either side and move the ball well plus play long passes.

Harvey is a dribbler and has a shot. he needs to have a role that makes that work.

same as trent. sticking him infield is like sticking David Beckham at no 6.

let him just cross and do what he does.

at this point in time 2 games I totally rhe grand experiment trent really hasn't shown that movement to get on the ball like a wannabe pirlo or modric.

watch thaigo lads. ignore the turns and vision out the back of his head. he moves l, receives ball as he demands it and had the next ball picked and delivers.

Hmmm,

I'd like to understand the reasoning behind you thinking Curtis us better suited than Elliott.

Both very similar, but I'd put Elliott at the level above Curtis.

I'm not sure (other than mitos absolute hammering of the lad at every opportunity) where the idea us he can't play right midfield. Especially considering he's still incredibly young.

He's been pur best midfielder this year by some way.

Jones seems more willing to get stuck in. Elliott either because he’s always played further forward or still mentally thinking about his ankle just isn’t as good at closing down and making a tackle.

Jones has bit more energy about him and willing to put a foot in. Think he’s played well last 2 games, think given where our season is, klopp should say you’ve got 8 games to go show me I don’t need to buy another midfielder.

Don’t think anyone is saying Elliott is a bad player btw. It’s just as jimmy says, finding a role for him. Atm he isn’t suitsnle to play rw in the way Salah does. And isn’t suitable to play in midfield the way our midfield does.

However…. That’s not to say he can’t do either. TAA has come inside to play cm role, klopp is clearly tweaking things so who’s to say we need an exact like for like replacement. Maybe he can play rw in a different type of role. Guy is very talented so like TAA just need to find a way to get him in the team to get beat out of him.

I'll happily agree to disagree on this one.

Elliott is a much better player than Jones. you've got to wonder with all our midfield woes this season, he's not been close to being involved, we've literally exhausted all our option and now he's it.

Elliott will battle away, he's not going to put in a kante level master class but the effort is there, if it gets hard jones disappears.

But like I say I doubt anyone will be swayed from their position by my ramblings.

They will if you make a convincing case. Heck, luv's got me onboard the Mount train today and I was prepared to wait for the next one to come along.

I often think ive made compelling, considered and concise arguments.

Then I read back and I can't work out what my own point was, so good luck for someone else to know what I'm chuntering about.

We can't fix the team completely in one transfer window, especially on a fixed budget. Two midfielders will take us closer to where we need to be.

Let’s hope for a relatively free injury year next year - it will definitely make a difference if so.

however many players that we buy, hopefully FSG now realise that even when winning, we have to invest and lose players as they decline. This alone will be huge progress.

It’s not just FSG that we need to realise that. They aren’t the ones trying to keep bobby and Milner until they’re 80 …
