don't forget we actually declare the full staff wages whereas certain other teams don't.

if you look at our wage bill yets it is high for the 25man senior squad but its not the highest and frankly theres a certain club i refuse to believe pay that little. If we gave salah 200k per week more we would only tie chelsea, and TBH we are carrying probably 3 or 4 players too many that would balance that out. e.g. milner, origi, karius, ox, adrian = 480k per week beleive it or not. (yes we are actually paying karius and adrian a huge amount to get splinters in their arse

man city = 3mil per week. (does anyone really believe this)
chelsea = 3.4mil per week
Liverpool = 3.2mil per week
west ham = 1.4mil per week
Arsenal = 2mil per week
Spurs = 2mil per week
Man utd = 4.2mil per week.
wolves = 1.2mil per week
brighton = 950k per week
Leicester = 2mil per wekk

Theres a reason why arsenal's dropped so much. they have a lot of young players and only a few aubameyang issues.


Frankly man city wages are underreported so IMO we are 4th highest payers no matter what above says and could pay even less if we could shift the crap

I think its pretty well known open secret that most, if not all, Chelsea's staff costs are not included in their wage bill as they are paid / employed by a separate company.

No offence intended, but it's terribly naive to think everyone watches someone else getting a lot more than they and doesn't think they themselves are worth more. It's human nature, and it has nothing to do with how we assess their relative value.
No-one wants to be told "he's getting twice as much as you because he's so much better" - especially as it's a team game.
Salah is thriving in our set-up, but stick him in Norwich and see if he's still the "Best in the World". A handful of our players would be well within their rights thinking that they are equally as important to our current success.
It's a well-worn cliche, but no-one is bigger than the club - I've had a lifetime of seeing truly great players turn out for us - and there'll be plenty more to come after. Mo is the latest in a long line of illustrious talent - he's worthy of his place amongst them, but not to be elevated above them.
Do I want us to keep him? Yes, of course.
Do I want us to bend over backwards in order to? Certainly not.
If he moves on, we'll get over it.

And I'm Not saying this is the choice we have, but if the choice were:

1 World Class player and 10 decent players OR
11 great but not quite world class players

I think we would all pick the second option in that oversimplified scenario. The true cost of anything is what you give up to have it. I truly want Salah to stay, but if the cost is our future and not being able to bring in the transfers and next generation of title winners then the cost is too high. There's no use having Salah if we can't bring in the talent to win titles with him. I'd rather have a squad capable of winning titles than the worlds greatest player surrounding by aging icons that will always finish second.

vvd and TAA just signed new deals. If they felt they were worth 400k should have asked them. Clubs holds the cards there.

let’s use simply scenario in that case.

Say we give him new contract and salary goes from 200 to 400 a week. Over 4 years.

Would equate to 41.6m more over the course of a 4 year contract.

Now do you think we can buy a replacement for Salah and pay them wages over a 4 year contract for 41m? In theory we’d have to find a player for 20m and pay them 100k a week. Now it can be done.. but you could easily get 2 or 3 of those and none of them work out and you’ve spend 3 times what you would have to just keep Salah.

Now I know that’s simplified version but to replace him for the same money you’d spend on him isn’t s walk in the park.

I take your point on them having already signed, I was just making a general point about how it is human nature to want more when someone else has it.
The whole issue is about where we go from here, what happens when others do come up for contract talks, or when we want to sign new players. It's inevitable that giving Mo what he (apparently) is asking for will lead to wage inflation at the club, so the question is whether or not it's worth it in the medium to long term.
On a purely personal level, btw - I don't find multi-millionaires claiming to be happy but demanding even more money to be kept happy very convincing.

i didn't say others would want the same as Salah just that they ,probably , wouldn't accept such a large disparity .
The fact people have just signed new contracts doesn't stop them agitating for a new one and if that fails you always have the possibility of a very disgruntled player which normally leads to them being moved on .

But Salah really is in a league of his own - quite literally the best player in the world, pretty much carried us last season and is on fire this season. He is a global superstar.

Anyone else in the squad asking for the same money will be laughed out the door.

Unless we just simply have a standard salary cap and don't pay anyone more than £200k a week, and be done with it. Sure, we will be able to attract some good talent and develop them but don't expect them to stay for long.

I couldn't say what we can and can't afford. I will say that COVID wasn't a thing when we signed most of them. Obviously we all want what's best for the club and that means the best players we can afford... Unfortunately we can only speculate what that is and trust that the club does the right thing.
