Everyone was lauding our approach when it came to signing players - offer them low wages but big incentives for winning. Now it's become a problem because we became successful and have to pay out these incentives.
i suspect our wage bill is far more just straight wages these days . Edit : don't think we did offer particularly low wages tbh just good incentives on top of less than stellar wages . Overspending on wages are the biggest danger to any club .
don't forget we actually declare the full staff wages whereas certain other teams don't. if you look at our wage bill yets it is high for the 25man senior squad but its not the highest and frankly theres a certain club i refuse to believe pay that little. If we gave salah 200k per week more we would only tie chelsea, and TBH we are carrying probably 3 or 4 players too many that would balance that out. e.g. milner, origi, karius, ox, adrian = 480k per week beleive it or not. (yes we are actually paying karius and adrian a huge amount to get splinters in their arse man city = 3mil per week. (does anyone really believe this) chelsea = 3.4mil per week Liverpool = 3.2mil per week west ham = 1.4mil per week Arsenal = 2mil per week Spurs = 2mil per week Man utd = 4.2mil per week. wolves = 1.2mil per week brighton = 950k per week Leicester = 2mil per wekk Theres a reason why arsenal's dropped so much. they have a lot of young players and only a few aubameyang issues. Frankly man city wages are underreported so IMO we are 4th highest payers no matter what above says and could pay even less if we could shift the crap
I think it changed more towards straight wages when we attempted to sign the lines of Alisson and VVD. Top players want guaranteed wages, they don't want to rely on their teammates performing
plus the slew of new contracts for what are now established players .I do agree with Jims point about the amount some of the fringe players are receiving though .
It's one of those things - we have some world class players in the team and we need to pay them accordingly. That's just life. But we do need to trim the fat. Too many squad players / injury prone players picking up good whack.
Virgil Van Dijk £220,000 Thiago Alcántara £200,000 Mohamed Salah £200,000 Trent Alexander-Arnold £180,000 Roberto Firmino £180,000 Fabinho Tavares £180,000 Alisson Becker £150,000 Jordan Henderson £140,000 James Milner £140,000 FAT Naby Keita £120,000 Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain £120,000 FAT Sadio Mane £100,000 Joel Matip £100,000 Diogo Jota £90,385 Joe Gomez £75,000 Takumi Minamino £75,000 FAT Ibrahima Konate £70,000 Nathaniel Phillips £64,615 (never in a month of sundays is he getting this) FAT but 25k lads. Divock Origi F £60,000 FAT Konstantinos Tsimikas £60,000 Loris Karius £65,000 FAT Adrian £58,000 FAT Andrew Robertson £50,000 Neco Williams £25,000 Curtis Jones £7,500 Caoimhin Kelleher £6,000 theres about 530k per week there nobody would really miss, ok theres 2 of the 6 forward included and someone has to come in there but in general theres two players for every position there not inlcuing kids like morton Alisson, kelleher Trent, williams Robbo, tsimikas matip, gomez vvd, konate fabinho henderson, elliott thaigo, jones mane, jota Firmino Salah We still have the same old issues. Lack of real midfield options and lack of real forward cover. Sell the crap and we still have the same issue.
I dind't want to hammer keita yet but a player can't be first choice and be fat sorry, no matter how hard you go in on him.
Some of those values are way off. Not a chance Robbo is on 50k otherwise he’d be smashing the door open. Jones will be on more than 7.5k. Williams on 25k? Vvd is reported on closer to 300k. Like every club plenty of deadwood to move on and wave some wages on
No I’m being serious though. Who in the club would come and ask for more money if Salah was given 300-400k? And what would their justification be?
Maybe we need to do a Barcelona. Claim we’re broke and can’t sign anyone cos of ffp unless some players take a pay cut. See if they’ll take 50% cut to save some money so we can register new players
most of this is just press scrabbling round looking at rumours etc and people collate it. I'm sure robbo signed a new deal so would be more like 100k probably. williams signs a deal after playing a few so myabe it is 25k, jones has only signed a kids contract so is someone fighting for a real deal. Wedo know vvd is nowheere near 300k though. 220k.
only mane as his contract would be next up. as i said if trent walked into klopp's office having a strop he'd be reminded his contract was done and he signed it. IMO you use the market like salah is, not what someone else at the club got 2 years ago. Salah wants kdb money. he wants more than sterling or grealish money. seems logical. If mane wants salah money he will get short shrift. if he wants rashford or sterling money then he could justify it maybe. Rashford is on the same wage as salah!
This is my point. Mane contract is up same time as Salah so he’s only one that would be current negotiating with (weird it’s all quiet on that one btw) and if he thinks he should be on the same as Salah after the last few years then the guys delusional. All the other key players signed new deals 1-2 years ago. If they think they are worth 300-400k then they should have asked for it at the time.
yeah, its the same as you or me. If i walked into my bosses office and said nigel in accounts is on X i want the same they'd go so what. nigel is special, he knows where the bodies are buried. But if i walk in and say I can get 10k more out in the market place they will either get worried I'll go or tell me to go get it, but if they know full well I'm right about the market rate then they'll be worried. Often Them knowing you know the market value is enough for them to be trying to look after you in the annual reviews.
