I've had a read through the last pages and I'm struggling to see how people can be happy with our transfer activity.

It's like a battered wife being happy with a new partner because he doesn't hit her as hard.

Because we where in the **** 10 years ago, we must now except that Brentford are more powerful in the transfer market than us.

Fsg didn't bring us any crowns, Klopp and a **** load of luck did.

I cant quite understand how anybody on here can be happy with how we are going about our business. If anybody questions it, they immediately get stuck with the comeback that they want to be debt riddled like utd or a plaything like city.

I don’t think anyone is ‘happy’. Think people just know it is what it is. Can’t change it so no point getting super worked up.

I think we all would have liked a couple more signings but you know it could be worse, we could be signing random players and spent 130m on them and be no better than we were like arsenal and then have to do it all again next summer?

I dont think many are super worked up, but questioning how we spend or lack of it shouldn't be derided.

Will you be quite as happy to sit there and go well you know it is what it us when our front 3 are into there 30s, klopp has gone and qe are back being hopeful. Will winning the net transfer trophy be enough for you then?

I've said it before and I'll say it again where exactly has all the money gone?

what money exactly? We made a loss last year. Previously, we built a new stand and training complex amd are about to start on more stadium development. We are, broadly speaking, spending what we are earning in transfer fees.

Said it years back, the luckiest owners in World football.

Their sell to buy model has come unstuck though, partly due to COVID imo, as I think without it you’d have likely seen the recycling of a bucket load of cash from one of either Mane or Salah. Now you’re left with all 3 of your famous front line hitting 30 before next summer & their value drops accordingly. So how does FSG’s sell to buy policy replace them or enhance the team? What saleable assets have you got? VvD is already 30, Henderson 31, where’s the cash coming from to rebuild that side? Trent? Robertson?

There’s always a period when the big clubs need a short term cash input to invest (note the key word there - invest) in the team. It seems you’re never getting that from FSG.

Last season I believe we brought in Thiago Jota and Tsimikas and this season Konate. The narrative that there has been no investment is a bit of a stretch. In that time we have also promoted Jones and Elliot to the first team. That is 118 million worth of transfer fees spent and 6 players who were not mainstays in our title winning team as well as CL teams.
In that time 50 mil for the new training facilities and 60 mi for the new stand. Oh plus the new contract extentions. Money has been spent for sure how you interprete the expenses is the issue.

Again, you’re assuming that we would waste our money by spending like Arsenal. When in reality, we have proven to be very good when it comes to buying players.

Well said. The last sentence hits the nail on the head - people assume that because you want to buy a couple of players, it means that you want to spend £400m on 1-2 crap players.

Transfers are always a risk but we showed on multiple occasions that we are good at identifying players which have ultimately led to our success. Allison fabinho VVD Salah etc didn’t come through the academy nor did we pick them up for peanuts. That, along with having a fantastic coach, is the reason why we are where we are today.

Our core group of world class players will be entering their 30’s in a couple of years times and if we don’t act on finding their successors soon, we will end up in a position where we have to spend stupid amounts on 6-7 players in a single window. Do people think that’s a better option than buying 1-3 players each summer?

Yes we got konate this summer but let’s be honest, we should have bought him last summer. Remains to be seen but I wouldn’t be surprised if come end of the season, we’ll be saying we should have bought an attacker.

We’re supposedly the 5th biggest club in the world. Yet we have to scrape around and fans will still find excuses for not investing in the squad

I agree, but we are on a knife edge of getting ****ed over again this season.

Fabinho gets injured, what do we do. Gini wasnt the best player in the world, but he was incredibly consistent and never got injured. However I trust Klopp to judge Elliott correctly.

In January, we will lose both Mane and Salah to the ACON and we are up against it again.

We are just a couple injuries away from another disaster.
I believe in Jan we are in for Ben Davies’ younger brother who is at Preston as a forward

We won the European cup in 1977 I believe.

So what did we do? We go and buy some good players to ensure we stay on top.

And on that note Klopp has said from the start that he will only buy when the right player comes up.

I agree as per with loads being said - apart from the luck comments - I think FSG established their pattern in other sports and we appear to be no different so I do not see them as lucky - more of - their way.
If that follows through there will be investment but only when they believe there really needs to be.

I doubt they read the forum but whilst I am not happy (in fact I live in a perpetual state of worried) I also trust the group and the manager that brought us the best period in my time supporting us. They did it sensibly and with very little spend.

I find it funny that people accused us of buying the title as we spent nearly 150m on two players

we all know the answer to that

then our owners don’t know what they are doing - neither does the manger who has built at least 3/4 squads that I know of at different clubs.

I am certain he is aware of the age of our players
I think sometimes we forget our own mantra

a quick look across the park shows how different things can be (that’s not a wum btw) - they have invested a fortune and what have they won - the Brentford’s etc are trying to stay in the league.

the amount of contradiction that goes on is quite unbelievable regarding the premier league.

we are not the biggest club in the league - we aren’t going to outspend but our club is trying its best from what I can see

going to see what the season brings before I change my mind on everything I have just said lol<laugh>

I agree that we should be spending wisely but this makes It sound like our scouts have been doing nothing for a year and couldn’t identify a single player? Sorry but I can’t believe that.

Ooops
- sorry lol

Are we really the 5th biggest club I would have put these guys above us
Real Madrid
PSG
Utd
Bayern
Juventus
City
Chelsea
flamenco
Boca
Barcelona

not trying to wind up just think there are much bigger fish
I think we are around Dortmund sort of size

But if we are officially 5th it shows you what a great job FSG have actually done Tbf

I can see us going for that Christophe guy who is currently at nice if Arsenal don’t get him first after Klopp as that’s our position as a club atm

They may have identified players - gone to Klopp and he has said
No I am happy that I have X and he is a better option - just you guys concentrate on making sure I don’t lose anyone else like I did Gini you dipshits - I will get us through to Christmas and we will reconvene this discussion then
