It is all just speculation. Maybe we can't afford anyone because of Klopp's monstrous Kinder egg habit?

Maybe we didn't rate Malen? Maybe he thought he'd get more opportunities at Dortmund, or liked the fact it'd be easier to visit the Netherlands.

Similarly, how many of the West Ham, Villa or Arsenal players would you want? People we moaning about us not buying Pepe, was that the wrong choice? We did spend on Keita and Ox, was that the right choice? We did spend on VVD and Allison, was that the right choice?

Our squad isn't small; we're just not happy with the options in it and have found it difficult to shift people on. Yes I'd like a forward or two, because the front three need replacing and Minamino doesn't appear to be the answer. But it doesn't have to be today if the club's not happy with the options they see.
 
Premier League clubs with a larger net spend than Liverpool since 2016/17:

Man City, Man United, Arsenal, Chelsea, Everton, Aston Villa, Wolves, Spurs, Brighton and West Ham.

Arsenal signing another defender for 20m then loaning bellerin to betis.

From being arsenals best defender being linked with return to Barca to now going betis. Stock has fallen dramatically in 2 years.

When does it need to be? Do we need to wait for Mane to have another poor season? Do we hope that Bobby finally steps up after 18 months of poor performances? Do we wait for Salah to inevitably regress?

We should't have to sign players when it becomes an absolute necessity (i.e. buying a defender after we had so many injuries). We need to be proactive. We brought on a left back to help us get a goal vs Chelsea because there was a lack of options in attach.

Spending also involves wages which have increased materially. Our wage bill is not outsourced like Citehs so profit margins are definitely low. One thing I have come to appreciate with Klopp is not to buy for the sake of buying.
However I have seen a clear reaction to our fanbase linking the Chelsea result to the lack of investment. Anyway my final take is whatever happens I am okay with the current squad and the key is to get the squad in sync and do as much damage to smaller teams as required

Theres a lot to be said for continuity.

Some of the clubs people.mention as higher net spend change managers, and a lot and as a result are in churn.

We are stable and are winning a lot of games.

On the other hand a little more ruthlessness is needed when you can see things going south.

I would have to say I would rather the quality we have and no financial issues than chase a pipe dream and have financial issues.

Fsg feel like the glaziers to me. They are reliant on being told all is well on the park and just want to focus elsewhere.

When klopp goes we are looking at all bets are off stuff cos a bad appointment and we are hitting the skids.

Is that including wages? Because I'm sure if you factor in wages that list gets a lot smaller.

Is that including stadium renovations. Again, that list gets smaller.

It's not that the club isn't spending money, it's just spending less on new players.

2 years ago we had the best team in england and Europe.

A few stingy windows later and all around us have improved while we sat watching.

Any result short of a comfortable win and the "told you so"s are out in force.

Two years ago we had the best first XI in England and Europe who were all still pretty young.

Now we have that same team who are still first XI one of the very best in England and Europe.

Our team is now in it's prime. We should be able to be better than two years ago. Other teams buy new players to improve, but old players decline or get moved on.

A deeper squad would be nice, but I think we still have a first XI that, if uninjured could win everything again if they still have the hunger.

It won't be long until they're declining in ability rather than getting better though. So we can't go forever without new signings. We've still got at least one more season with them at the top though.
