I dont expect us to play with the sort of dosh city and the chavs do - they dont have to play to the normal rules like most clubs.

But last year we sold lovren and desperately needed def cover.

So we scrape the barrel and get davies and loan kabak. Brilliant.

We all know we need a winger. Who have we got?... Probably "like a new signing" Minamino.

Gini gone, and now we're relying on curtis and elliot to replace him, again thats brilliant.

A midfielder, a cb and a winger were essential buys this summer for me.

We got one.
Is this the same Lovren that almost everyone wanted shot of? :)
Yeah, with hindsight we needed a replacement, but there could be many reasons why we didn't find an adequate one. And I defy anyone to suggest they could see that ridiculous run of injuries in the offing.

Whatever you do, do not login to twitter. It is a mess and a good example why people without an ID shouldnt be allowed on social media. I can excuse the young ones but there are fully grown men actually making some of the most absurd arguments. Mind you, last season is the barometer apparently everyone will get injured again so we should but more players to negate that even though we cannot due to squad make up restrictions.

Well its a forum for discussion so i guess thats why<laugh>
Yes, you're right - but there are (at least) two sides to that argument.
Your right to moan is no more than my right to moan at your moaning. :emoticon-0172-mooni

Anyways - my point is that there's nothing to be gained from carping about something you have no control over - and I don't think it's all that healthy, tbh.
I enjoy football and I love my team no matter what. There are ups and downs, and I get frustrated too at bad results or more especially poor performances - but overall I'm happy with the way things are.
Could they be better? Of course - but look on the bright side, at least you're not an Arsenal supporter.

Twitter's a cesspool.
The comments sections of sports sites are littered with such stuff as well. It's as though they're all thirteen.

When does it need to be? Do we need to wait for Mane to have another poor season? Do we hope that Bobby finally steps up after 18 months of poor performances? Do we wait for Salah to inevitably regress?
Truthfully, I don't know. But I would say sometime in the next two years. Of course my ideal would be as soon as possible. But I don't have all the information.

Beides which, we have bought two players for those positions, so techically we only need one more. But while Jota has done ok, Minamino hasn't (in both cases: so far). As with Keita and Ox, if Minamino had been as good as hoped, the issue looks less pressing. But again, signing players for the sake of it isn't the answer.

Am not sure who mentioned it on here….but Utd’s revenue was almost the same as ours just before the Covid crisis…in fact, we may have even overtaken them. They’ve loaded the club up with more debt and they don’t have to develop their stadium as the prior owners had the foresight and money to build infrastructure when it was more affordable.

we are on a sound financial footing AND competing. Would I like more signings? Yes, of course I would. Would I like FSG to load half a billion of debt onto the club to do that….as per Utd? Absolutely not…..anybody who does is either very young, a new fan or has a poor memory.

FSG have always cut their cloth. It was good enough 3 years ago…it is good enough right now. We have one of the worlds best keepers, the best CB, two of the best full backs, one of the best DM’s and a couple of the best wingers…….not to mention, the best coach in the world (probably)….if you really want to see what FSG have down for us, go and look at the team of 11 or 12 years ago. Hodgson s team. <yikes>

like I said, it’s not that I don’t want to improve but we need perspective. We’ve come a long way since Hodgson….so far that expectations are now sky high.

A few items I have with your argument
  • You ignore the impact of the pandemic on our business model
  • Our revenues were on the rise until we were taken a few dollars back
  • When we signed these players, they were not worldclass now they command a higher base salary on renewals as they are some of the best in the game
  • We do not dope in our financials and as such we are showing the true reflection of how most clubs should be struggling in light of the pandemic
  • The only other option is to load debt on the club sign players to make the fans happy and hope we do not have another hicks amd gillete moment
  • Barcelona have been forced into a sell off due to ignoring financial realities and having gone through seeing LFC almost bankrupt, I am okay if they withold short term spending if it means we get the right players.
  • The next part of out teams evolution is replacement of the current team and the way it looks like, it will be a combination of academy graduates, young signings with a high upside and ofcourse there will be a star here and there. This is Klopps 2.0 squad and it is one where you will have to expand your time horizon.

FSG have done a stellar job to turn around this club and if you think throwing money at it is the problem look no further than Arsenal. All the money but no clear strategy to execute. I am all for wanting trophies but so what if we do not win one ? Enjoy the football and hope at the end of it we have a few trophies to celebrate. We have become so engrossed on the end objective that we cannot even enjoy the journey. I was mad happy when we won the CL but the Barca game is what I will remember to my grave. We won the league but those games in the ridiculous run will live long in my memory.

Good points and will try to address each one -

- COVID on finances. This was valid until we see pretty much every other club in the league and across Europe spending money and strhengthething their squads. We were then told by all of the local journalists that the RedBird investment would mitigate against these losses and returns us back to pre-Covid level of spending.

- Yes, buying quality players and developing them costs money in terms of transfer fees and wages. This is what every top clubs in the history of sport has to deal with.

- Agreed, we do things by the book. If every club abided by FFP, then our model is fine. unfortunately, we're being penalised for following the rules.

- You say withhold spending in the short term - we're amongst the lowest net spenders for a while. How long do we need to keep saving money?

- Agreed, we need to evolve but it's best to consistently improve by adding 1-3 players each year, rather than having an overhaul IMO.

- When people try to oppose 'spending', they often look at other club where it's failed i.e. Arsenal. I agree, they spent so much and wasted every £. But instead of looking at them, why not look at ourselves? We have been so good at recruitment with around. an 80-90% hit rate. Our recent success is literally down to getting the best manager in the world and buying top class players like Ali, Fabinho etc. We have proven that when we spend, we spent it well. We are a perfect example of it.

No one wants to spend just for the sake of it but no one can tell me that this is squad is perfect and doesn't require signings.

how many squads are perfect? City need a #9, Utd need a DCM. It never stops obviously, but we are neither mega bucks City or load up the debt Utd. We are sensible Liverpool. Right, Wrong or indifferent, under current ownership, that’s who we are so we’d better get used to it <ok>

I did. during covid were were only 11mil shy of their revenues posted.

you are dead right compared to 2010 this is gravy.

We could have a billion pound in the bank, still rather us sign no one than spend for the sake of spending. Trust the club and those in charge to sign the RIGHT players.

Yeah, four legs good, two legs better, or something like that, We love you, FSG - our saviours. :emoticon-0152-heart
