Reds in Maguire Race
Liverpool are third-favourites to sign Harry Maguire from Leicester this summer.

The commanding defender has been in fine form for England in the World Cup and scored during the 2-0 win over Sweden last weekend.

Red legend Phil Thompson believes Maguire would be the ideal partner for Virgil van Dijk at Anfield next season, and Betway believe Jurgen Klopp could be a genuine contender for his signature.

“Many have been impressed by Harry Maguire in the Premier League at both Hull and Leicester, but it’s his performances at the World Cup that have really caught the eye,” spokesman Alan Alger said.

“He’s shown he can do it on the world stage and the Premier League’s big guns must have been keeping tabs on him ahead of next season, with Tottenham, at 2/1, leading the chase for his signature.

“The commanding centre-half is still favoured at 10/11 to remain with the Foxes, but with Toby Alderweireld odds-on at 1/2 to join Manchester United, Spurs could be lining up Maguire as his replacement.

“Virgil van Dijk seems to have transformed Liverpool’s defence since his arrival from Southampton and the Reds are 11/2 to combine him and Maguire at the heart of their back-line as they build a team capable of challenging for major honours.”

Awoniyi Update
Teamtalk reckon Liverpool have persuaded Taiwo Awoniyi to remain at the club.

Chelsea, Tottenham and Manchester City were all reportedly keen to sign the 20-year-old, who joined Liverpool in 2015 but is still searching for a British work permit.

Barcelona and Inter Milan also expressed an interest abroad for the player who scored 10 goals for Mouscron last season.

Awoniyi, however, is set to follow Harry Wilson in penning a new deal and could then join Monaco on a two-year loan agreement, according to the report.

He's been good but not convinced he's good enough for us

I agree. He was awful in the first two, possibly three, games. Granted he's been good in the last two but it's a no from me.

How many times have we said don't judge players on their WC performances - it's a false picture of their true ability. Even if you look at it from the other side - has Messi ever played well in the WC? All our best players are out of the WC with barely a good performance between them and the two who get the most stick are close to the final, with one of them definitely going to be in it <laugh>

If Lovren wins the World Cup I fear for Jimmy.

They can all have the lad... jesus his agent really went for one there didnt he.

Just look back to Leicester v Liverpool and watch salah destroy the lad.

He is a big old school cb who nobody has pressed at all or run at so far in this world cup.

Good header of ball and honest... but let's see him v a top forward eh?

Wait until he faces France or Belgium (final or third place playoff)

I'm sure someone said Wilshere would end up at WHam :emoticon-0138-think

West Ham.

They're the only club with Delusions of grandeur (the idea that Wilshere is a top4 player and they can achieve top4 by getting players like Wilshere) and have enough money to throw away.

Be a shocker if the little ****er had managed to pry himself away from London

Liverpool have seen an opening 18m (£16m) Euro offer for 29-year-old Croatia and Besiktas central defender Domagoj Vida rejected. (90min)

Juventus have told Liverpool they can sign Marko Pjaca this summer – but they must cough up £22 million.
