Not everybody who voted to leave the EU did it because of immigration and most of those that did objected mostly to freedom of movement, not immigration per se. There were many who voted to remain who were also as concerned about it and wanted it controlled. Jeremy Clarkson campaigned for remain and is one of the most high profile casual racists in the country. The boardrooms which wanted to remain are some of the most racist, misogynistic and homophobic places in the country. Capitalism doesn't care about cultural diversity.
We will still have immigration. It will be based on merit, like most non-EU systems. It will put the predominantly coloured rest of the world on the same footing as predominantly white Europe, which seems more culturally diverse to me. Nobody's going to stop top rate taxpayers coming in.

I was speaking more generally, while addressing your specific point viz-a-viz footballers' permits, which was a follow-up to Astro's [HASHTAG]#brexit[/HASHTAG] post.
On the issue of UK vs EU rules, they should be the same, because of freedom of movement. However, as this PDF states:
"In order to understand the football work permit regulations in England, it is necessary to first understand the natural conflicts between the FA and the Premier League on this issue. One of the main concerns of the FA is England’s success at the international level, and therefore, it has a vested interest in ensuring that young English players have the opportunity to develop and thrive in the Premier League. (The percentage of English players in the Premier League has dwindled from 79 per cent during the 1992/93 season to 33 per cent at the start of the 2015/16 season.)
"This is in direct competition with Premier League clubs’ focus on building the strongest possible squad, regardless of nationality, and a very delicate balance is struck with the current regulatory system.
"This tension was illustrated recently when the FA proposed reducing the maximum number of non-home grown players permitted in a club’s first team squad of twenty-five by four, from seventeen to just thirteen players. This would almost certainly be viewed as restrictive by Premier League clubs, and the authors believe that these clubs would be highly unlikely to agree to the FA’s proposed amendments."
So maybe the difficulty you're referring to is in the FA's limit on numbers. I don't know if these amendments were actually introduced.
Post-Brexit, it's sensible to assume EU players will be on the same footing as non-EU players.
The UK rules were tightened recently for non-EU players, who must be "internationally established at the highest level and will make a significant contribution to the development of football at the highest level in the UK."
The Home Office issues the visas but players must have a “Governing Body Endorsement” from the FA. Given it's the FA which currently wants to restrict foreign players, the tension between it and the PL seems likely to continue and possibly intensify after Brexit. But the FA will also have to consider how much money the PL brings into the game, boosting its own coffers. Sadly, getting quality talent from abroad to sit on the FA to manage this balancing act doesn't seem likely.
I've been watching Suso's progress since his academy days. I always felt he would slot in well after seeing his progress at Milan.
