ok guys one more time.

a) barca: spend the money they had on dembele in the summer

b) have 4/5 guys they need to get rid of to free wages and get moeny to spend

c) have paid merssi a massive 60-mil signing bonus and something like 600k a week (not sure if those are euro numbers)

so when someone says "WE HAVE COUTINHO"

they mean we are running endless stories to keep our fans happy during the winter break

January just doesn't add up for this transfer. thats just the common sense rationale. So unless a bank is fronting the bid out of the goodness of thier hearts...... well

The common sense approach is

a) everyone wants the deal, LFc included.

b) the fee is clear

c) barca can get the others sold and coutinho in in the summer, early as they like.

d) klopp is happy the year was agreed and thats how it is.

To believe spanish press or meddlesome agenda led english press is pointless. If barca can pony 130 or whatever mil then they would do so and not be playing the press games.

Until its real, its noise :)

regardless of this, it is unsettling and thick players like Couthino get caught up in it all and threaten to not play for the club.....

The obvious solution for all is to (a) buy his replacement now and then (b) agree a deal to sell him at our terms in the summer. Everyone gets what they want. It's clear that Barca want him on the cheap so try to unsettle the player....our message to them must be clear - play our way if we will not sell to you....

We hold the cards here. Couthino will not strike in WC year and he has a long contract.....

nothings changed since august :) as i said without football in spain for 2 weeks or so its a total ****fest to make up stories.

Yes in a heart beat, big strong and great on the ball. He wasn't playing much at PSG is that still the case?

Goretzka reminds me of Draxler, from what I've seen they're similar players.

I'd actually take Goretzka given the choice of the two. I'm no expert but I did watch a fair bit of him in the Confederations Cup and he was head and shoulders above the rest of the young German team.

Not sure if he's going to BM though? I saw he liked an instagram post about Klopp - must be coming to us then <laugh>

I see that Golem Ballbag is now the voice of knowledge on Couthino again. Like he got it all right in the summer didn't he <doh>

If he keeps banging on about it he'll get it right eventually and everyone will forget he couldn't have been more wrong if he'd tried last summer!

The guy is moron that spins any story until he gets one right.

This is true of virtually every hack with a pay-packet to justify.

Also interesting note:
Someone who's normally spot on on another website (I won't link to it) has said that the VVD transfer was completely down to the boys over in Boston and no one in the UK (Klopp, Edwards, etc) had any involvement until they were told a few days later that it was all finalised. Basically, after the blunders over the summer, they took control and just paid up, no fuss.

Point being, it's also likely that Coutinho's transfer is also being sorted out by Boston directly meaning whether Klopp wants to force Coutinho to stay is irrelevant. If they're all about money and profit, he'll be off soon. If they recognise the football side of things, he'll be gone in summer.

TBF if you're all about money and profit you don't break your transfer record for Salah then instantly break it again for Keita then obliterate it for Van Dijk

What you do is pile 50 years of debt onto your club so they can raise the value of the nearby property you've been pumping all your own money into while selling off every recognisable name at the club

I agree to a point, we are not going to sign someone at Coutinhos level as there are not many at that level and they cost too much and don't want to come. So what do we do? I think we look to change that position and buy someone who is good at winning the ball other than someone with as much craft as Coutinho.
Keita comes in the Summer and hopefully he'll have a new DM behind him now if we add another Keita type player then our midfield is very difficult to bypass.

We are all too familiar with that cycle:

We buy a good player at a reasonable price -> he improves and plays to a high standard -> attracts the attention of Real or Barcelona -> Rumours and intense Spanish press speculation unsettles the player -> he agitates for a move -> he goes for a high fee -> we get 2-3 players for that money , one of whom is a good player -> and so the cycles starts again. In the meantime, we have a competitive team for only one season and we constantly rebuild.

(Whisper it: We are a feeder club for Barcelona and Real just as Southampton are for LFC)

At one point, the owners or manager will have to say we have had enough of that crap. We are going to keep our best players.

Gary, Bristol it's Liverpool who are hypocrites illegally tapped up VVD then cry when Barca do the same to them!!

The club and Klopp must insist that he doesn't leave until summer whatever price they are willing to pay. We simply cannot have our team being dismantled as soon as we get some winning system. We won't win that league title in the near future if our owners keep doing this.
Perfectly true if they just keep doing it for basic business reasons. However - frustrating though it is, you can't hold onto a player for ever if he wants to leave, so it isn't entirely in the owners' hands.
Imo, they did the right thing with Suarez by getting him to stay another year to give the club time to come to terms with it, and if they hold out with Coutinho until the summer they'll have done the best they possibly could, imo.

The thing is, that until we start winning trophies we can't hold onto star players if the big glamour clubs come calling - but it's much harder to win trophies when you lose your best players. There's a Catch 22 situation there, which is why I've said all along that for us to get back to the top will take time and a lot of luck. This is why I back Klopp for the long term, even though he hasn't been able to provide instant success.

Couldn't you label all journos with that tag lol.

Sanchez tipped to replace Coutinho at Liverpool

Former England manager Steve McClaren has advised Liverpool to move for Arsenal star Alexis Sanchez if Philippe Coutinho leaves.

According to The Times, Liverpool’s Brazilian midfielder thinks that he has played his final game for the Merseyside outfit amid interest from Barcelona.

However, the publication states that the Merseyside outfit will not be tempted to sell this month unless an offer of around £133m is tabled.
