You're right in what you said about it having **** all to do with being a big club or not but he's right about us not having the same pull in the transfer market as back in the day, I can't see why he said we aren't a big club anymore etc because if the right combo of players get us some silverware and put us on the road to sustained success the calibre of player will be better and then the club's stature rises to what it was, only problem we haven't been able to do it since our last title win, we looked like we might under Rafa in the 05-06_07 seasons but then it went tits up.

Lots of factors involved though, wage structure, purchasing of young players over established players etc, baseball expert playing moneyball on our behalf in the transfer market.<laugh>

Back in the day club's from these islands and europe used to visit Melwood to study our system and hope to copy it for their own club's success.
FSG should do similar and find a club that has the best overall system of success a learn from it.
What's a "big" club anyway? Depends on your point of view. There's a solid handful of clubs who can look down on us atm, but an awful lot more looking up.
We're not what we used to be, it's true, but like you say we're certainly within grasping distance of it, if a number of factors came together.
There are too many people with not enough experience, or who aren't perceptive enough, to understand that things change and that the status quo isn't set in stone.
I wonder what they'd have said about Utd when they were in the doldrums for 20 odd years?

Exactly, Mills chose a narrative where he could get away with saying we aren't a big club but if he'd have been talking about sponsorship, income or other factors he'd be wrong.
The era in the club you mentioned's history has been airbrushed out to a large extent, but during those years when Busby's team gradually diminished and retired they had to make do with lesser players from the lower league's like Hill and Pearson and Coppul etc, but in the end with a combo of luck, youth and expertise and the dawn of the PL things clicked for the ****s.

What's that I hear in the distance?, could it be the click we've been waiting for?.......nah it was just the arthritis in me knee...<wah>

Of course we haven't and nobody sensible (which means 99.99999% of our fans) believes we are. Hell, even back in the day when were kings, so to speak, Laudrup picked Barca over us, didn't he? Rush picked Juventus over us. Lack of 'pull' isn't what caused this crisis with Ford though - it was more due to planning and/or dealing with a club that thought cheaply even though they had £200m in their pocket.

And Lou Macari chose man yoo over us and won an FA Cup and the keys to his chippy on Warwick Road.<laugh>

I only have your health as my main concern, a stutter could be a sign of stress. Do you support a club that has not signed many players this transfer window? This is often the cause of stress. Relax with this beer I have bought you :emoticon-0167-beer:

Thank you doctor, that seems like the remedy I require I require.<whistle>
