Arsene Wenger reveals Luis Suarez “agreed” to join Arsenal in 2013 - and why they bid £40,000,001

Arsene Wenger has revealed Luis Suarez “agreed” to join Arsenal - and why they bid £40,000,001.
Wenger has recalled one of the most famous transfer sagas in football history when Arsenal tried to sign Suarez from Liverpool in the summer of 2013.
Liverpool owner John Henry publicly mocked Arsenal for making the extraordinary offer with an extra £1 to activate a clause with his infamous tweet “What are they smoking over there at the Emirates?”

But Wenger, in an interview with beIN Sports, insists that Suarez wanted to move to Arsenal and a deal had been done and challenged anyone to ask Suarez who joined Barcelona a year later.

Wenger said: “He was very close (to signing for Arsenal). We had an agreement with the player. We had been wrongly advised that he had a clause, with a minimal clause, but we had an agreement with the player. You can ask him.

“I'm convinced he wanted to join us and then they sold him. They kept him one more year, improved his contract and promised to sell him the year later to a club abroad."

Wenger also praised Suarez’s behaviour in recent times after cleaning up his act following several high profile storms, including his biting shame.

And there's a new name to get stuck into today, with Polish striker Lukasz Teodorczyk linked with a £10million move to Liverpool
'Liverpool transfer target Virgil van Dijk can become world's best' - says the man who paid £2m for him
Neil Lennon paid just £2.6m for Van Dijk in the summer of 2013 - but he thinks the Reds target can become the world's best defender

Van dijk is toast.

A polish striker link is cool. **** knows anything about him but klopps record in that market is good.

Heard tell Dick Van Dyke is going to Citeh is that right?

How good is this Solanke and is Salah coming? From what I can gather not many fans wants Salah

Salah has come on a lot since his brief Chelsea stint, personal terms agreed. Just the fee to be done now, sounds positive.
Seems like he will play more on the left (he's two footed) but will be able to switch with Mane. He's lightning quick, scores and provides.
I'm quite excited by his (probable) arrival <ok>
Solanke is young (19 I think) and is hopefully one for the future. Looks tall and physical, bit of pace. Only about £3m so not a massive risk.
Van Dyke?................dunno..............some say its Liverpool, mito says Citeh <whistle>...................we'll see

Manchester City are reportedly set to complete the £60 million signing of Southampton centre-back Virgil van Dijk.
According to Neil Moxley of the Daily Mirror, Manchester City are closing in on their third signing of the summer as they are set to complete a £60 million deal for Southampton’s central defender Virgil can Dijk.

Citizens boss Pep Guardiola has wasted little time in going about his transfer activity this summer as he has already recruited Bernado Silva and Ederson Moraes, and is also closing in on Monaco left-back Benjamin Mendy

If we don't get Dick would we be disappointed?

Agreed......if his post injury form is anything like what it was in the first half of the season then £50m seems the going rate.

He's a level above Stones for sure.

Yeah... and sahko will do one for 30 so.....50 sounds a sack load for a c.f. but it's all gone mad now.
