    here is one for tobes

According to that all knowing, never been wrong authority "internet sources" here: Liverpool are interested in signing Everton left-back Luke Garbutt who is out of contract in the summer.

He's an athlete with wonderful delivery at set-pieces. But even former Everton coach Alan Stubbs concedes he's a bit rubbish at heading!

Even if he is not scoring the goals himself Origi will make the difference. Much like Sterling out of position. He will add pace upfront and run in behind, which our playing style needs in order to thrive.

It will also mean Sterling should not have to play out of position.

    Good point.

Agree with the last bit unfortunately. He's the sort of player we SHOULD want.

I certainly agree with that. we should want him. but then markovic has a similar pedigree really.. international, well thought of etc etc and the reality might be different. I dunno. He looks like he's got every playing attribute rodgers wants though whereas markovic has only recently showed any.

Lets hope markovic plays well tonight.

Absolutely - great believer in Markovic as I watched him a few times (!!) for Benfica in Europa. He is a big big talent and is beginning to show signs of life.

Shaqiri I feel is already a rung or two above him... he's a proven player in my eyes. His mistake was going to Bayern - he hasn't had the chances to step up again to be regarded as a top player ala Sanchez etc. But he can - which is why this Inter Milan link is so disappointing. I've liked him since he scored that great goal vs England at Wembley - would love to see him at Liverpool - we'd make him a star.

he may be but with 20mil invested and seeing we are not cheslea what can we do here. Lallana, sterling, markovic, ibe already in so who goes for shaqiri

The time for this move was last summer prior to lallana and markovic. Thats our problem not shaqiri's but i do feel a lot of this is agent stuff as as we all know italy is as dodgy as **** and i'm sure his agent would love a couple quick years at inter then an other big move... the inter guys will be paying him nicely.

And you know... its not even us I'd say its england as a whole as utd were briefly linked to him too.

Lallana gives way. Shaqiri would walk into our team and it gives the other players as backup.

    Crap keeper
    Crap back 4
    --------------Can---------Henderson
    -------------------Coutinho
    --------Sterling--Sturridge--Shaqiri

Not even sure how flush Inter are right now... they've a very average side at the moment. Only Kovacic and Palacio really stand out.

If Shaqiri goes there it couldn't be for footballing reasons. Imagine Milan is more appealing than Liverpool...

under the table i'm sure they can manage enough to tickle his agent and the tax free living will suit the lad.

should but it puts singing the guy for 25mil and markoivc for 20 into harsher perspective doesn't it... i'd not disagree but it just shows how wasteful we'd be.

At least Markovic has played at a high level and on a big-ish stage. He has immense potential.

Shaqiri is more matured and developed than Markovic but he's also far better than Lallana.

We should have signed Shaqiri and Markovic in the summer.

Successful teams apply good squad rotation. Coutinho is clearly not suited to every style of game and some games can be better suited to 2 strikers. Lallana is very good at linking things around the edge of the box in a good passing games. Sterling's pace can be deadly at the point of the diamond. Lambert can add height and muscle or Shaqiri could play false 9.

    Henderson Lucas Can Shaqiri
    Sterling
    Sturridge

    Shaqiri Sturridge Sterling

    Shaqiri Coutinho Sterling
    Sturridge

    Lallana Coutinho
    Sturidge

    Sterling
    Sturridge Striker

    Coutinho
    Lallana Shaqiri Sterling

    Markovic Henderson Can Shaqiri
    Lambert Sturridge

I could go on for ages. The addition of Shaqiri would give us so many options.

Imo, Coutinho's performance depends more on who he's playing with than against. He's so used to passing into space that he needs mobile strikers in front of him to be effective. In some games his passing appears awful because he has expected his striker to move into the gap and it hasn't happened.
To an extent it is down to him to learn that when he's playing with the likes of Balo and Lambert he has to be prepared to play it to feet more.

Have we bought anyone yet, btw? :)

    Can Henderson
    Shaq Coutinho Sterling
    Sturridge
Not a bad team there wth Lallana and Markovic to come into that as well.Youth, pace, movement and mobility. Things we had last year and worked well for us

My only concern with that system is we loose out on some of Henderson's best traits. That is a very attacking team and Henderson and Can have the responsibility of keeping the balance between attacking and defense. Both players are very athletic and Henderson especially performs best when he has room to run and cover a lot of ground. He will be a bit limited with that.

    We could however try this:

    Can
    Henderson Coutinho
    Sterling Sturridge Shaqiri
I think I'd favour Lucas over Can there though.

That's the exact same team I posted apart from you moved Henderson to sit next to Coutinho rather than behind <laugh>
