Gerard Houllier is Director at New York Red Bulls. A move has been suggested in the press.

Linked with Saido Berahino, for a 23.5m deal. At that price I hope they are including wages for 5 yrs as he is not worth more than 1om based on what he has shown to date. May work in our team as he is fast and could be good cover for Sturridge (just in case he gets injured!)

No chance is he worth over 20m but we won't get him for 10m because he's Young scored a few goals and more importantly english...

of if anyone wants him they'll have to overpay and you're paying 50% on potential.

If rather sign a steaming turd than a player like him for that.

For me I find it interesting that Shaqiri and Montoya are headed for juve. It seems the Italians are up to the old tax free stuff again. It won't be long til England is 4th tier if the Italians get their act together

That's way too much. He'd possibly work in our set up, possibly being the key word and why I'd be looking to get him for about 18 if that's who we're targeting. Very quick player, plays off the shoulder, looks to get in behind defences and create space elsewhere so very much the kind of player we need.

I agree running in behind is what we need and bags of pace, physical presence too. The last thing I want to see is an over priced player for 3 years time!!!

Sturridge is the only one of our strikers interested in doing this. Borini is a little bit but he's **** so. Lambert, Balotelli if you look at their positioning when we attack they're actually behind the play a lot of the time, really not what we need. We need our skillfull midfielders like Coutinho, Lallana and Sterling to be able to feed players/strikers in front of them, that's what they all want to do but there's nothing on for them at the minute. That's why Suarez was so good, his coverage of the pitch, he'd drop back and be a creative player but always get back into a position to be fed and looked to go through defences on goal. Couple that with Sturridge who is a more static sort of player, not static but likes to lead the line and stay high, and you get why we scored so many last year. Sterling has done a decent job being drafted in to be that man but it wastes what he is truly good / exceptional at, which is running at defences with pace, setting up and feeding the strikers and scoring the odd one himself. Knew we'd be linked with Bera and he could be gold for us, but I'd hate for us to overpay again, been doing that for years and it's getting old. We'd be taking a chance and he's still really young, unproven. The price should reflect this. Will it?? Most likely not in the overinflated market we have.

Suarez didn't care if there was only 6 feet or 6 yards left he'd run in behind too

Yes he'd come deep but any sniff he was in behind all the time cos that's where goals come from

With both Suarez and sturridge at it opposition teams didn't know what to do and they drop off making room for midfield to play

Coutinho and sterling benefitted and so frankly did Gerrard.

We need that striker only an idiot would buy balotelli

Berahino is a talented player who had an outstanding (hah, that word again) season last season, but his form since August has been dire. He's exactly the kind of player I'd expect us to be linked with; young, fast, talented, one brilliant season in their entire career, over priced...so I imagine we'll land him for 25mill or so. Don't get me wrong, I'd have gone for him in the summer over Lallana or Markovic, but those are our 20-25mill players already. Are we really going to gamble another similar amount on someone else who might make it?

Said it before; Bolasie links will be next. He fits the criteria too.

this is the year where he played quite a bit but didn't really score that many?

32 games in league 5 goals..... **** n'gog did that for us............ just buy the real talent not the potential

Last season Berahino broke into West Broms first team. For most of the season he was the youngster, but towards the end he found form and went on an impressive run. Berahino then carried that run into this season and made an impressive start.

But after a month or so his form started to slip. Quite possibly because of high expectation and being over played.

Or he could have been dropped cos he refused to sign a new deal and just like origi has his eyes on his next club not this one?

I'm not going to defend or slaughter a kid who's not ours but tossing yet another 24 mil down the Ian on hope is a terrible strategy when lfc need, and urgently need talent NOW

If arsenal get cavani for example for about 40 mil what will be said in that?

De Boer 'will not leave Ajax'

From ssn.... Seems he was linked to newkie and has said go do one... Interesting how he had his brother out pushing for lfc job on his behalf but is now firmly back in the Ajax camp

Expected really - very unlikely for him to come out and confirm that he wants to leave before anything concrete offer is on the table.

I hope this season has taught Rodgers a lesson i.e. his tactics favor high speed strikers supported by skillful tricky midfield players. A pressing game is also paramount for his tactics. With this in mind he should be looking at

    • Upgrading Lucas, brilliant player for me but his legs have gone and lasts up to the 70th minute. He can be a useful squad player but at 26 years I believe he may want to play a bigger role.
    • Replacing Gerrard. Some may disagree but if our philosophy is buying young talent with potential, there is no need trying to fit in a 34 year old. It would be sad to see him go but we've said goodbye to past legends and he should be no different
    • Integrating Origi and adding a further striker to supplement Sturridge & Origi. Who? Have absolutely no idea
    • Replacing Johnson. Our other wing back is relatively young and on a 2 yr loan. Therefore i'd hope with Johnson off the wage bill, he should try and buy a more experienced player and not another youngster.
My immediate concern is someone to assist the striking force hopefully on loan or we get lucky and find another Sturridge in the Jan window

The Berahino talk is a worry, I've watched him a lot as my wifes side are WBA. He's a good player no doubt but I wouldn't want to pay anymore than £11 million, the mark up on English players is silly and if we can't get him for a sensible price then look elsewhere.

I agree on lucas... you should actually combine this with the gerrard point... playing both together is nuts... henderson was released yesterday and was enjoying it. when you see players like matic as the gold standard there has to be players out there who can do the job.

forget origi... he's not showing anything where he is that he's ready to storm the prem and had benteke been fit he'd not have got a sniff in the WC asnd nobody would be talking about this boy lfc signed... potential only... we should be buying a top top player here... the best we can get

replace johnson... fn shoot johnson imo

    Completely agree with this.

I would also add a right sided centre back to replace Skrtel as wel.

Origi is a youngster - I don't think we should be putting him under too much pressure at this stage. He would be perfect as a back up striker instead of Lambert and Borini. Sell these two plus Mario and sign one first team striker (Lacazette) and get Origi back (In the summer).
