Yes, and that's why I was asking the question, so we can discuss it.I couldn't possibly know why we're doing it. None of us knows what's going on behind the scenes, (other than Slot saying Zubimendi turned us down) so the intention to strengthen is there. I just don't see how, unless and until we do make a signing, we are putting ourselves in a better position which should be the aim.
I'm always relaxed on who and how many we sign. With Klopp we trusted that he knew what he was doing because the results were testament to him knowing what he was doing. I think he could have strengthened us more when we were in a position of strength having won all major trophies but we'll never know why we didn't bring in more quality players at that time.
We don't know who Slot is yet and presuming that he (and Hughes et.al) knows exactly what he's doing and that it's the right way to go is just the other side of the blind faith/cynicism coin. Getting behind the new manager and supporting him doesn't mean you can't also question him.
You know I had my reservations about Slot but I sure as heck don't want him to fall and neither am I sitting around waiting to dislike something he's done or said. His interviews have been impressive and I will acknowledge that and give credit where it is due. I will also point out my concerns. That's what the forum is for isn't it.
Everyone involved in the decision making is experienced, and there must be a plan behind their actions - it's just that we can only guess what it is.
I can't imagine they would undermine the future by getting shot of the promising youth, it seems to me that they must feel that those players aren't promising enough and are moved on, or that we simply don't need them at the moment and a loan is the best plan for them.
Is there a risk that we might be left a little short? It seems possible, but I'm not involved behind the scenes so I don't know for sure, and I'll accept their assessment until it's proven wrong.
