Rodgers always came across as the smarmy business executive type with silly, transparent motivational stunts like the envelope thing.
It created a barrier between him and the players and was just a bad idea.
Klopp was all about emotion, and that was great - he lived every second with his players and was a leader as much as a boss, but sometimes his emotions got the better of him.
Slot seems more approachable than BR, but with more self-control than JK, we'll see if that balance is the right one.
Klopp was loved precisely because of his character, and I doubt anyone will ever be as popular again, we just have to hope Slot wins us over with results.
Klopp had the great advantage of being prerecorded as a top top manager due to his real achievements and high regard internationally. Thr usual suspects went straight for it's only Germany or 7 years and blah blah but it was out of sheer fear on their parts.
Klopp is a force of nature and as unique as shankly. It won't happen again for a while but we had 2 of these guys and should count ourselves lucky I suppose.
Slot just has to be true to himself.
We had Paisley who was very different then ***an who was different again and then of course Kenny.
Kenny had the great advantage of being a club and general legend. He was a spiky **** with the media and others ut a players man. He'd cut you in two with comments
The souness who was roundly hated by the end as he was very stubbornness made changes thst were not popular but bought badly too. He wouldn't go and the club were too timid to sack him after thr heart issue.
Then Evans was too nice and a walk over for players. Thst was his main issue imo.
Then houllier came who was thr professor or school master and quite negative in set up but well liked imo.
Then rafa who was again quite strict on tactics and systems but again well liked by fans as he was genuine all in.
All of these predated social media largely.
Then comes Hodgson who was never backed and made bad comments thst lost him any sort of support.
Then comes Rodgers who I think people were not very impressed with as the young coach thing but again he came.over as false. The transfer committee stuff really killed him as did the documentary thing. Seeing under the bonnet added to rank buys lost his credibility.
Then comes the klopp charisma. Blows away every bad feeling form years and years of issues and makes great buys to back the persona.
Slot has a certain feel good squad effect and a certain level of expectation to contend with. Imo he needs good buy sand to instill the belief that this is not going to go tits up.
Compared to Rodgers coming in this lad has a decent squad. It's not half as good as some make out amd it's certainly 3rd or 4th best (arsenal and city are ahead imo, other clubs are very close if not better as well)
He must make good buys, whenever thry are made.
He must be genuine with fans and must understand already the expectations. If he utters one word about not winning is OK he will be gone in 6 months.
It's a tick box excerise
A) understand fans and their expectations- lfc win things. Fans love hard work and genuine effort week in week out
B) understand the squad isn't half as good as some make out, the keeper is, the defence is ropey, midfield lacks balance but has talent going forward, the forwards are not consistent.
He has plenty of bodies bit other teams have thst and are better, it's just a fact.t
C) he has to get results to make people believe. He can't afford to bin off the leavie cup early or go out of the cl early here. He has to hit tje ground running in the league and at least be ticking over the results.
D) a clear slot style has to be evident. If thats fast one touch passing then do that and be up barking at players if they slow the passing down.
If fans see a genuine man, who's got a real idea of how to play thst they like and the tram looks well prepared and working hard then they will back him to the hilt imo.
Fans won't accept people settling for second best or players looking like they don't Care
