if you don't ask more then you are too nice to be in pro football as a club.

you know we apparently have it.

I'm certain we have done that with Lavia. I'm sure we did it with Allison when we pinched him from under Chelsea's nose, and with Mane and with Gakpo from under United's too. But this was the biggest bid we've ever done in our history - to not have checked with the player is unforgivably incompetent.

The problrm is our new owners have publically stated that we want a Dortmund like model of buying young with the pitch of you'll get a big move in a couple of years.

Presumably we informed Lavia early in the window that he can go if our valuation is met and to go back on that would be poor form and make other youngsters think twice about joining imo. Our selling point is that you'll get a big move and if we're seen to be moving goalposts and being unreasonable then that selling point suddenly doesn't seem as appealing

A hefty sell on would be nice though.

Yeah anyone we approach now will know we have £110 million to blow so can see us being quoted some inflated prices.

I think it was all fake to run up the price Chelsea had to pay and delay him arriving.

As pointed out earlier Dribs, the 'deal' between the clubs was agreed, but not by the player himself. We've royally ****ed-up. We actually put the biggest bid in of our history - and didn't check with the player himself. Mickey Mouse level of professionalism, and you could see from Klopp this morning at his conference that he knew all this then. And for those thinking that we have £111m to spend now, remember this - we may have thought that last year when Tchumanai rejected us, but FSG turned around and said they wouldn't spend money on anyone who wasn't a long-term target.

What an incredible, humiliating mess - we wouldn't spend £90m on Bellingham, a player who wanted to come to us, or £90m on Gvardiol, who also said how much he wanted to be at Anfield: but we'd spend £111m on a player who only wants to go to Chelsea.

Klopp will walk by Christmas. :frown:

"I only want to play for Chelsea because I've agreed terms with them and want to honour that agreement.

Unless, you know, you offer me better terms..."

Happily join… think we all know his agents are total ****s but they really aren’t helping themselves. Not setting a great public image. I’m sure if he had doubts we’d pull out though

This is incredible, his former team mate is with Liverpool. I think that should encourage him. If he doesn't want us, so be it.

this lad is severely misreading the room.

given his idiocy in signing that new contract why should we be surprised?

If he wants to rub LFC fans up the wrong way and never be taken to he is going about it exactly the right way.

I'm sticking to the line that we have just jumped the bid on Chelsea in hope of forcing them to pay far too much for the player and end up having to sell colwill :bandit:

in fact the more I think about this excuse the better it gets.

We've prevented them strengthening before our game sunday.

We've cost them 25mil or so.

We've made the player look at twat.

But best of all... we've proved that FSG back the manager without actually needing to pay any money to do so.

Assuming this mainly tongue in cheek, you don’t just start ****ing about with £110m bids for bantz

Best case scenario is that the latest spin is bollox and Chelsea won’t even come back in for him.

Shame, I still think he was the better option, and my worry is still, if we return for Lavia we will overplay him and injure him. No doubt he has quality.

Hopefully we will look elsewhere, unless we're getting two DMs and then I'd be happy signing Lavia as one of them.

    Straws being clutched I'm afraid:

Chelsea have asked him to reject Liverpool - which he has - and are going back to top/match Liverpool's offer, which Brighton will accept. It's over. We just offered to marry a bird and agreed everything with her parents - but she rang up the crazy rich kid who'd been dating her since May and will elope with him. And we're left with a £111m engagement ring. <wah>

Seriously, memories of Torres flooding back here. And, not sour grapes, but how do Chelsea keep affording this stuff? Give them their due, I think even they thought they wouldn't be spending like drunken sailors in each window after Abramovich went. How the **** do they keep this up? :emoticon-0112-wonde
