We just don't know the details but from the outside

Brighton set 100mil price
Chelsea willing to go to 80 odd.
Chelsea buy a bang average leeds player for 20 odd.
LFC enter auction and offer 110mil (bbc)

Do we think that Chelsea won't go to 111million? I don't know. why 111, why is bbc reporting such a figure?

I can only conclude that we have gone far higher than we would have if we thought we had a free run at him for 100mil. If Chelsea then match who knows.

I don't know, but until he's signing a contract we need to assume this can all flip

Not after PUBLICLY saying Bellingham - who everyone knows was Klopp's choice - was too expensive with an £86m release clause (disputed that bit though).

Bellingham was decided against before we lost our entire midfield and before we had an extra £60m in the bank.

Huge suspicion Klopp wanted both Caicedo and Lavia after our midfield Exodus... We have room for both.

That's why we were playing hardball with Soton over price. When it became obvious neither Soton nor Brighton were going to sell below their asking the option to sign both went off the table... LFC could pursue only one target so had more money to spend on the individual target.

Where as we’ve then turned around and within 24 hours of public knowledge have made and got bid accepted for caicedo. Similar to how most of our other deals get done.

Not sure it was from our side at all. Quite the opposite. We said from day one it was £50m and didn’t change that. The leaks were more likely Liverpool generated to try and get Lavia to force a move for the lower price. Served us no real purpose to be leaking it (other than perhaps to get Chelsea involved, though there are far better ways of doing that).

Silly money but it needed to be done to get the target so we’ll see. If he gets us back up there challenging over 10 year period then you’d say was money well spent.

Caicedo Mac Szobo Elliott Jones - top age of 24 so we’ve dramatically changed the dynamic of that midfield which is what they said they would do this year.

I think this year will be like the season where we tried to outscore the opposition

can’t see us reinforcing defence - I think the defensive reinforcement is that the midfield will try not to let it get through as much as last season

in two seasons (cause if this goes through we have blown our pot for for windows lol) we will reinforce defence


If Nunez Doak and Gakpo come through me could sell Mo next season to strengthen defence ?

nah, its deffo not coming form us mate.

It was seconds after we "submitted bids" and then instantly "its rejected" it was out of your lot. there wasn't time for these to come back round to come from ours.

the only thing that came from our lot was that south american lad imo.

Of course it was in your interests to be seen to have a set 50mil price and advertising the player was, and is, available at that price. It put massive fan pressure on LFC if nothing else so everything points to your club as the beneficiaries.

I would point out that at NO POINT did the safe regulars we would look at comment first on what was going on. It was people on the south coast first.

I wouldn't be too worried though i think it was a fair tactic to get maximum value and it will now force chelsea's hand.

Going to put this out there but we could easily be doing this off the back of knowing something that nobody else yet knows concerning a Saudi bid on salah AND another on thaigo.

You are right though, if we were sat on 111mil in ready money then hard balling southampton for 50 can only suggest we had 52 in from suadi to go with the funds to buy a cm and CB.

Lets just do a quick sum up

10 for thiago (maybe)
40 for fabinho
12 for henderson
8 for phillips (being generous)

call that 70mil.

100 for salah from nowhere. thats 170mil.

111 for caicedo
60 for szoboszlai
35 for macallister

thats 206 mil.

we might easily be looking at 50mil net spend again. :emoticon-0140-rofl:

somethings triggered us here to pivot from poor mouthing southampton to throwing cash at brighton. What that is we can only speculate.

What we do however know is now the cat is out of the bag so we need to get that medical done and contract signed before Chelsea come back in.

Well if we add a DM (and rest of Midfield) that can actually run, that should give the defence some of the protection it was lacking last year

Too late, unless the player says he's only going to Chelsea (very possible). Brighton said they wanted the bids in last night and have REPORTEDLY signed a contract with Liverpool.
