Stupid that uefa now having to change the rules because of this.

fair play to Chelsea. Before ffp came in they stocked up on a shed load of young talent. Then sold them on 4-5 years later for 100% profit on ffp. Now they’ve done this. Have a very good financial team over there.

Obviously comes with risk in terms of getting players out of the club before contract ends if they are no good though.

Except what they've done is anything but fair. Hoovering up and stockpiling young talent and dishing out extra long contracts to circumvent rules and/or the spirit of the game should be cracked down on.

Why? Notbibg against it in the rules. 1000’s of other professional clubs in the world all could have done exactly the same thing.

No one forced the players to sign for them.

or they can be hammered by uefa for seeking to circumvent spirit of rules.

    anyway the thing is

they are all over the place in signings and about 80% will fail as it really is stocking up.

not really a defence though. uefa could simply drop a 19 man squad limit on them for 3 years for breach of trust or whatever they like to make up.

there's always a way to put manners on clubs

will it be a problem? they have about 10 players to shift anyway so they really desperately need a striker to complete the squad.

Can’t say I’ve read all the rules on ffp but I’d be amazed if there was such a thing as breaking the spirit of the rules.

The rules are what they are. Chelsea have done nothing wrong.

Yet again, it’s Uefa **** up for 1, allowing that kind of loophole in first place. But 2, having a rubbish ffp that don’t actually work in first place.

Do you think thousands of clubs have got Chelsea level finances to be able to do it ? <laugh>

Isn’t that the point? You get around that but spreading the costs over longer contracts…

Obviously not all clubs have their finance but there’s still nothing against the rules in what they’ve done. Any club could have done this within their own level if wanted. Champ club could spread their £10m signing over an 8 year contract and signed many new players to get into prem.

initial point is, the finger pointing at chelsea is silly. Morally yea, maybe it’s not the best thing but it’s allowed them to buy some of the best young players around and if, 5/6 of them turn into very very good players then would be well worth that investment.

Seems to be lots of hints on Twitter at the moment about Bellingham and LFC (more than normal), but can't see any links or anything to anything of substance. Has anyone heard anything?

I don't know that Chelsea are breaking any rules here. All they're doing is kicking the can further down the road. Six years from now they could find themselves hamstrung trying to buy new players because they've still got purchases from today and every year since counting against them with FFP.

The only large advantage would be if inflation continues at a breakneck pace or they somehow find massive growth.

The risk though is that a player loses value or is not wanted to continue, they have to offer larger wages to get a player to sign a longer contract and that could make it hard moving them on..

Other teams could follow the same play if they wanted to risk the future for today.

They haven't broken the rules, but FA are saying they are going to change the rules now I'm response to Chelsea's actions and limit the number of years to 5 over which you can amortise the fees in relation to FFP?

Going to be that way for next 5 months until window opens in the summer. All this ‘lfc favourites’ means nothing stm. 5mmnths is a long time in football

Unfortunately fairness no longer seems to be a thing in so many aspects of life.
No matter how much we love it, football is a game, but sportsmanship and fair play seem irrelevant and "win at any cost" is the current mantra. If you can get away with it's fine, apparently
It's a sad indictment of today's attitudes that so many people don't even see anything wrong in this.

I hate to say this but the best example of sportsmanship i have seen in literally decades was by one of you players (really can't remember if Fowler or Owen). Man was awarded a penalty against the oppo keeper and did his best to convince the ref there was no contact.
Memory is fuzzy on player/oppo but will never forget that.

This was ****ing painful for me to write <grr>

Fowler against Arsenal. Still took the pen and seaman saved it.

Di canio springs to mind when he caught the ball from a cross because the keeper (I think?) was down injured.

In contrast, I saw the Saints - Newcastle game tonight and Murphy giving his sarcastic, provocative little wave to Caleta-Car as he trudged off really annoyed me. If I was the Saints guy I'd have decked the little twat and taken the ban.
