I can't believe that we would only go for Gakpo in this window when it's obvious we need the midfield refreshing. Unless there's a plan to play him as a midfielder first and foremost until we get extra bodies in in the summer. I've got no knowledge of where or how he plays.

Whether it's the plan or not is irrelevant. If the right player isn't available, we won't buy

If it is a holding strategy until summer, it's not irrelevant. That depends on the one thing I don't know - can Gakpo play a good midfield game? If he can then it looks more like a decision was made to sign him because he's versatile and can do a job in an area we need. If he is an out and out forward then it looks less like a plan.

he's a left wing/ forward.

not sure why we would consider him as yet another attacking cm when we are getting walked through as all 3 current players that started v Leicester all went up the park time and again leaving the back door wide open.

We only ever sign the right player, we don't panic buy. If the right player isn't available, the plan goes on hold. That's why our recruitment policy as been so effective over the last few years

I don’t think FSG want to spend any more money. If they are selling the club, the want to make as much profit as possible. We are desperate for a good holding midfielder but don’t think we will get one until Summer. I really hope I am wrong

if you look at spend we are up to about 50mil net a season. that's the last two seasons then the prior two are alhard to call due to covide and one being a profit year.

gakpo brings the overall net spend for 22/23 to 50mil.

if we buy they will arrive in July 1 so 23/24 and again net will be around the same. hence the 60mil clause people keep rumouring bringing us into the mix.

the thing is: come July 1 with milner and ox gone we will be quite short off hg players.

I don’t think I do now
I think at the time I would have been happy to sell him but only for a ridiculous fee
But not sure what signals that sends out to the team
Happy either way :)
I feel the same. I do think Nunez in the first few games they played together blunted salah’s game. I think they are forming a bit of a partnership now though.
