I thought it was 15 million? #quibble Still cheaper than Johnson was. That seemed like a lot of money at the time. As for England - so what?
I couldn't give a **** about the last year of the contract thing. That is just a situation to be taken advantage of. If he was the right player and had four years left, £15m wouldn't seem so bad would it? Why turn your back on the right player because you can't cheap out on them as a result of their contract situation? Seem ridiculous to me. Already said I don't us to sign him though.
Why overspend when you don't have to? We need to be smarter with our business - a player in his last year of his contract for a relatively unimportant position does not mean we need to bend over backwards. £15m is too much and if we were to spend that much, then I rather go for other full backs who are better.
I never said we should overspend I said £15m isn't that much for a quality RB in this day and age. If he is the right player, then why would you walk away from a deal because they want more than you're willing to pay because he's in the final year of his contract when you would be willing to pay it if he had three or four years left? At the end of the day, the buying club is getting the exact same deal; the same player for the same sum of money. Yet, people would want to the club to walk away merely because he has just the one year left. Does that not seem stupid to you? I do think £15m is too much for Clyne though (irrelevant of the contract situation) because he's not top quality IMO
Taken from BBC website Atletico Madrid midfielder Arda Turan wants a move to the Premier League this summer and has three offers from top English clubs, according to his agent. The Turkey international, 28, has two years left on his contract with Madrid - is he on his way to the Premier League? "His intention is to leave Spain this summer," Turan's agent Ahmet Bulut told Spanish sports newspaper AS. "His will is to leave and to play in the Premier League, that is the path he would like to take to continue his career. "We are currently in talks with three teams but I cannot reveal the names of the clubs. "However, I can tell you that they are the best in England and in European football." Cue the Turan to Liverpool rumours for the 8th year in a row
I I just saw this on ss app, and was about to say after all this time, he looks like he might finally come to the prem.... And we probably won't be the ones signing him! reckon Chelsea bound with Felipe Luis going the other way... Especially as they look like they are selling cuadrado 6 months after signing him
A decent player, but some discussion about the price - 40 million euro is a gigantic sum for the Bundesliga.
its a pitance over here... just a fact of life... every german player who cannot get to bayern should be headed to england asap. the money is ****ing nuts here compared to germany
Further evidence that the league is good value for money if £25m is a considered a huge amount. For a player with his potential, at his age and delivered over the past 2 years, I think we've done very well to get him at £22m.
I am not sure where he would go I dont think he is a top 4 player and dont think we need him so only leaves Spurs. If he goes Chelsea surely just end up like Curarado and Salah and not play.
i'm not sure he is top quality. i think he's athletic etc but top quality? 15mil in this league is a pittance though.... but southampton know we will pay it so just like sterling they will hold out.
Again, there is a issue about possibly spending more than we needed but so long as Liverpool (including fans) are happy with the outcome, who gives a ****?
£15m for an England international, his age, and potential is still good in this market. I don't think he's top quality - I do think he's a good player who will give us width and has more all around ability than Johnson, so it would be a signing which improves our first team. For £15m, I would test the waters for the likes of Carvajal or De Sciglio who are special talents. But spending £15m for a full back should not be priority IMO.
