just a pejorative term dating from Brexit aimed at remainers .
a racist pig ;)

Its an insult that is base don white people shouting the odds and getting flustered and going pink in the face so they look like a gammon.

the gammon hate being called gammons and say that we are not being woke and using hate speech by doing it :)
Thanks. I hadn't come across it before. <ok>

Not sure how voting remain makes someone a racist pig but none of this stuff makes any sense anymore. <laugh> I don't think it was ever meant to. Loudest voice wins and all that.

It's because brexiters were ALL labelled racists, aka pigeon holing them all as the same. It's discrimination if anything but it's was just return mud throwing.

It's funny how some words come to the fore like woke, cancel culture, virtue signalling and white privilege and with others you have to be part of a particular set or mix in particular circles in order to be made aware of them.

Funny thing about "woke" is that the word itself is not very "woke" since the word itself is "cultural appropriation". <laugh>

I have one friend who gets very annoyed every time she hears a white person use the word "woke".

See that's the main stream media isnt it?

They are all sound bites or insults thrown at various groups.

Gammon is not a soundbite anyone wants to be heard say if they are trying to appeal

Yeh, I studied ebonics at university. I think rap has been the main spreader.

Heaven forfend someone steals your insult and turns it about or changes its meaning.

Woke wasn't an insult. "Woke" was how black people in America identified people who were "awake to the social injustices placed upon them by white people". Now white people are using the word to mean awake to other social "injustices" and it upsets some black people.

I don't really agree with a lot of the charges of "cultural appropriation" but you can't help but see why they might be particularly annoyed about that one and why "woke" black people are annoyed at "woke" white people for not actually being very woke in their use of the expression.

It is an insult though. Its oh look you stupid ****wit you finally woke up to this? Or on the other hands an insult to other white people who didnt get it

Then the other side (gammons if you will) take it to insult the same people.

Imo people getting all heated about terms usually get so angry they forget why they are doing whatever it is they are doing and end up losing the message.

Woke just means being aware of issues around inequality and injustice in society. Its ridiculous that its being used as an insult!
