Lots of people commenting on Alissons skills as a keeper. Few/none have mentioned one of the key ones - the ability to remain completely focussed for 90(+3) minutes. We haven’t had a keeper that can do that for a while now.

Forgetting for the moment the complete moral bankruptcy of the current football market, I don't care what we spend on him as long as the club can afford it.
A good keeper could make all the difference to our prospects and is therefore invaluable.
The thing is, is he really that good? He's looked no more than competent whenever I've seen him.

It’s a good question and all transfers are risky.

Based on his season at Roma, he is that good. I’ve managed to watch him in 15 games (another 20 to go) and I am sold on him.

He was actually immense last season. World Cup and the LFC games aside, he was
one of the top keepers in the world.

It’s hard to measure a keepers quality because the metrics aren’t great. Clean sheets isn’t representative of just the keeper, but the whole team. No of Shots saved is dependant on the team you play in ie a crap team will present the GK with more opportunities than someone in a better team. Save percentage is a decent but it doesn’t factor in the quality of the shot.

But one metric is quite telling - expected goals conceded. For the nerds among us Expected goals measures the quality of the chance and the probability of it being scored.

If Roma conceded all their xGA as they would with a keeper who makes all the saves a keeper should make, they’d finish 11 points lower in the table, in 6th.

That was Alissons impact last season.

Along with being an excellent shot stopper, he comes off his line quickly, commands his box well, great distribution, plays the sweeper keeper role.

Stylistically, he’s suited us perfectly.

My one concern is whether last season was just a freak one off season or it’s the real deal. If it’s the real deal, then we will have one hell of a keeper.

Liverpool are now holding the ball of the situation and the will is to close in a short time, especially if Chelsea should soon define the double blow [of losing] Eden Hazard and Thibaut Courtois to Real Madrid.
Liverpool is still ahead (of Chelsea) for Alisson at the moment, so much so that he could close (sign) in the next few days.”

If I was TAA if be back in training. He's sat on his arse at the WC and will lose his place to Clyne of he stays away.

I sort of agree.

But... well min 2 weks. even if he was sat on his arse he trained and **** all the time. He did play a large amount last season and injury is an issue.,

IMO gomez will start the season

You are right. I was disgusted when southgate took him and i was confident he'd not play at all so while the belgium b game was nice for the lad and that... he might not play for 3 or 4 months now.

Liverpool getting closer to signing Alisson Becker. Deal worth €75m has been agreed and they now have permission to speak to the player. No indication on when a medical may be m
