Always tricky to judge on youtube.

Looks likehis reflexes are very good and helped by the speed he gets up. Seems to parry a lot, don't think he caught any of those shots which is a worry if it goes back into the danger zone. Looks quick to close down striker on 1v1's and I think was some stat that he wasn't beaten from outside the box last year or year before which is encouraging.

watched first 2 and a half minutes:

- first thoughts, that video shows a few outstanding saves
- he's very quick to get back up for 2nd saves
- his positioning is not bad

the main thing i saw and i think its showed in the first 30 seconds is that he's very palmy out and the first double save he makes is more a poor reflection on him not pushing it out/catching it. Likes to parry it like most keepers - should be worried about that as thats what karius does.

Be interesting to also see how much he flaps/commands his box
My first thoughts.........................Nivea :emoticon-0147-emo:

deffo wasnt last year, salah banged in that top corner shot against him <laugh>

Buffon went for 51M Euro in 2001, so with inflation not a bad fee at 66m Euro in 2018 for a decent keeper. I just worry he will not be that good
This^
Forgetting for the moment the complete moral bankruptcy of the current football market, I don't care what we spend on him as long as the club can afford it.
A good keeper could make all the difference to our prospects and is therefore invaluable.
The thing is, is he really that good? He's looked no more than competent whenever I've seen him.

it's all part of a puzzle. vvd. kieta. firmino salah. add Allison as go and that's the spine of the team

After the last 6 years I'll take a competent keeper though

I suppose the important thing is how few cock-ups he makes, as opposed to how spectacular he appears.
Substance rather than style.
Only time will tell on that one.

yes I agree. a world class save in a key game is great but not.making mistakes in the long run yields far more points over the season.

This as well. Now Robbo isn't the best defender in the world, but he made the left side more solid. VVD is a very very good defender, and made the middle more solid. Get a keeper than can add that stability as well and suddenly within a season you go from a shaky defence and keeper who are constantly making mistakes (Clyne, Lovren, Matip, Moreno & Mig/Karius) to one that may give you that reliable 7/10 every week.

We don't need a keeper to be the best thing since slice bread, making 20 saves a game. We need one that's going to not **** up, do the simple things and stay focussed. Now, you'd think you should be able to get a reliable keeper pretty easily, but we're generally always buying from lower clubs where keepers face more shots and don't spend 89 minuts doing nothing and then have 1 shot that needs saving to win the game. Those keepers already play for the top teams, so if you want one of them going to have to pay big.

If (And that's a massive if) we were to splash the cash on a keeper, it should be on Oblak.

This is what I said... in a mitoese 20 paragraph version <whistle>

so....

in other news.

the already announced Rhian Brewster contract was formally signed today.

taiwo awoniyi signed a new deal as well. (highly likely to be loaned out very shortly)

Harry Wilson also signed a long term deal and them was loaned out.

do you think Brewster will be sent on loan?

Been out injured for a while so might start off in U23's until Jan. Can't see any clubs taking a risk on him yet

He will start off good then our goalkeeping coaching team will bring him down to standards.
I genuinely think we hav an issue with the gk coach spot and have done for years.

Many other clubs seem to buy keepers and make them better ours always seem to regress. But will see. Currently have more faith in the scouting team, long may it continue :)

Is this ‘getting our excuses in early’ <laugh>
