No, unless Soton say we can. Difference is that we've told Barca that Ford is not for sale, and they've responded by secretly agreeing a contract with the player and briefing their stooges in the Catalan and English media on a daily basis.

<laugh>

Yeah big bad Barca with their underhand tactics. Not Liverpool though, nooooo... If anything we're the ****s for refusing to bend over <doh>

How exactly? We tapped up a player, nothing new or unique to us there. Where's all the reports saying VVD's signed for us, is being unveiled in a matter of days ..... We offered over the odds for VVD, Barca came in low for Coutinho. There's no similarity in behaviour other than we both want a player from another club who don't want to sell.

Or unsettled a key player of another club? isn't this what Barca is doing to us? :)

It's funny that insight is the rarest of qualities in a fan. We think we are better than others but other fans may not view our club in that light. :bandit:

You will have agreed provisional terms with VVD though, nailed on. But you got caught tapping him up, so had to back off before making an actual offer for the player.

At least Barca had the decency to make an actual bid to accompany their tapping up tbf like.

Barca weren't reported by us for their tapping up, so were in a position to put a (laughable) bid in. Or are you claiming that Barca didn't tap him up before the bid?

And have we negotiated a contract and made out the player is ours, then?

apart from meeting up with him and supposedly laying out the plans of next season and how he's integral to you guys i guess not :P (minus probably telling how much he'd make)

No Coutinho to Barca deal
13:13: Sky Sports reporter Kaveh Solhekol Barcelona are no closer to agreeing a deal with Liverpool for playmaker Philippe Coutinho, contrary to reports.

"Barcelona are still looking for a replacement for Neymar, they want Coutinho but Liverpool are in a very strong position on this," Solhekol told Sky Sports.

You can't tap someone up without dangling a carrot ffs.
But you can't honestly draw a comparison with what we did and the full-on media assault that Barca and their pack of journos are up to, can you?

Of course they tapped him up, it's [HASHTAG]#standard[/HASHTAG] across the game, and simply how it works.

You just can't get caught doing it.

£72m laughable btw? He's a good player but the figures being bandied around are mental

Nah.
Tapping up maybe, but we all know everybody does that. But when did we put out (supposedly) official statements saying it's all over bar the shouting and offer journos invites to the unveiling?
There's a food chain, and we're lower than Barca, but there's also a ****bag hierarchy, and we're nowhere near them on that.

I wonder where people would put us on that particular hierarchy. Of course only non-LFC fans should answer that <whistle>

You must really hate them down there <laugh>

They rock up every summer and say "I want tha one" then slap you in the face with their cocks and head back North.

I'm not too bothered really though it's tiresome and frankly getting embarrassing for both clubs now imo.

It's just the double standards from some that get me and the mentally that we should just do what they want cos they're 'liverpool la, 5 times la'

Whether thats Barca doing it or some pro barca reporters (probs barca but i doubt any of us know the intricacies of the Spanish Media). My previous post was a bit tongue in cheek but you already treated like he was your player by meeting up with him.

With respect to the media (now i'm not saying this is directly from Liverpool) but all their ex-pros that have been bleating on about it and making suggestions that they are holding vvd back, they should sell him, etc etc is probably just as bad from the perspective of outsiders

We withdrew our interest and haven't put any bid in for VVD since you reported us (though several papers reported that City and Chelsea approached the player behind your back too, but never mind), is that not true? Barca have done exactly the same AND kept up a torrent of newspaper reports (most of them palpably false) in an attempt not just to get the player, but to get him for as cheap as possible. Just as you have experience with us, we have history with Barca: the difference is that you've always been paid top, top dollar by us for your players, whereas Barca are accustomed (if not now reliant)on using their tactics to get their targets at knockdown prices.

Well it's not 'Big bad Barca' at all now - just like you, we don't need to sell. But unlike us, Barca won't back off and come to terms with the new reality. They're not big bad Barca at all, just big deluded barca. It's Real and PSG now - they're the top of the food chain. But whatever, we've far too much class to go whimpering to the authorities about their tactics.

We could argue this forever, but I get bored. There's really no comparison beyond the bare bones of the tapping up.

Maybe you should report them ala Saints and they might not be able to play these games anymore :P

AND buying him an ice cream on the pier.

conte was wiser head. he merely paid the agent off in a brown envelope.

You could learn from the Italian mafia/corruption ways.

Saying that Conte isn't getting his own way either, he's fuming right now and the russians are far better at getting his own way
