Ole Gunner Solshjaer when playing for united was always on a sub bench, and can change the game when required. We need qualities on our bench for Plan B.
Agree, it's all so slow and static when teams defend deep and narrow. Normally you stretch the team to create space but we have no width....on the rare even we get the ball wide our deliveries are awful (also applies to set pieces) and on the rare occasion we deliver a decent ball, we have nobody attacking it as we have no natural front man when we play our normal front 3.
Yeah so how does klopp make coutinho a no 8 in the same side as lallana? If he manages this trick and buys some one to play "wide" then how does it work? Say Mingolet Clyne matip x x Henderson Lallana coutinho Mane firmino x I can't see this really being in any way solid enough to grind a result when necessary.
If we play diamond with Coutinho in midfield, then Lallana is playing behind the 2 strikers. So space for another midfielder in your formation. If we play typical Klopp 4-3-3, then Coutinho either plays wide left or we actually have a squad and can switch things around. In 4-3-3, if Coutinho isn't fit, then we literally have no cover, same for Mane on the other side. We desperately need a wide player, one of the most important purchases imo.
Width has to come from the full backs. Both need to be replaced imo. we get so much space their that it's obscene that we rarely cross accurately or get goals. I wonder if Klopp will change his tactics versus the more defensive teams. I thought the 4-4-2 diamond worked very well last weekend with a ton of chances created. Coutinho sits very well at the tip of that diamond. In a front 3 we already know is good for him against more expansive teams.
Coutinho was left side and lallana ahead of him in the diamond. If we play that what do you do with firmino and mane...
I don't see us playing 442 very often. Think it was just something that got tried last week and even then, it wasn't really 442 as Sturridge was drifting out wide or dropping deep. I think 4231 or 433 will be the desired options with a mix of personnel suited to each formation. 4231 Mig Clyne Matip Lovren (New LB) Can Gini Mane Firm Cout (New CF) 433 Mig Clyne Matip Lovren (New LB) Gini Can Cout Mane (New CF) Firm Depends on the type of CF we sign, possibly that Firm goes more central in that 433 and forward drifts wider. Midfield still needs a bit more work, Gini & Can are solid reliable players but nothing outstanding yet. Means you have a bench that includes Milner, Hendo, Lallana, Sturridge, Origi. Some much better options to come off the bench than what is currently available.
Dunno... I mean all this central talk and winger talk and it doesn't add up. If a new first choice winger comes I the someone in midfield goes out assuming coutinho moves back
Don't be surprised if Lallana doesn't start many games next season. Personally - we have the team set up correctly against the big teams because Lallana is good at pressing and winning ball back. Against the lesser teams, Coutinho is much better suited as he can pick a pass.
I'd be quite happy with Ox. Can be hit and miss, but offers decent pace and can run with the ball. Can offer an option in CM or wide, plenty flexible. Sess looks a real prospect. Would still need a first team LB as well though. VVD, been brilliant this year to be fair, just hope if we do get him for the money he doesn't crumble. Would be a real statement to sign him. Crazy money if it's anywhere near the £50m quoted. Never seen Keita
Well you are going to sign one of them I guarentee that. A poor team like Liverpool always has to scavenge around the free's from the rich Kolo Toure, Milner... Who's the next reject from City?
Good signings for a 2nd tier side that doesn't win anything. Yep I agree Not good enough for any of the top sides though
He's just annoyed that despite Milner being £89m cheaper and playing LB all year, he's still had a more positive impact than Carlton Pogba has
