Brad Smith timeline:
June 2015 - [HASHTAG]#LFC[/HASHTAG] contract expires (still registered at [HASHTAG]#LFC[/HASHTAG]).
Nov 2015 - Signs new [HASHTAG]#LFC[/HASHTAG] deal.
July 2016 - Sold for £6m.

I can't read minds but I'm guessing Klopp thinks he can work around the midfield problem. The left side is horribly weak defensively, and I think will cost us points unless improved.

Not sure if GW is a natural CM, Grujic is raw, and Henderson, Lucas and Milner are simply not good enough.

Will be interesting to see how Klopp works around it but I am hoping a proper CM comes in.

Rumours suggest Klopp will have a trio with Can at DM annd GW getting up to score and create goals. My guess is Henderson or Milner complete the trio and do the grafting dirty work.

They're warm bodies though, and Klopp might believe he can get by. With Smith gone, we've nothing to back up Bert unless someone is expected to play right out of position.
Ideally we could do with both another CM and a LB, but if it has to be one or the other I think we need the latter more. Moreno has talent, but he has no positional discipline and is given to rash challenges.
Put it this way, if you were an opposition manager wanting to exploit a weakness, where would you be looking?

Slightly disingenuous this.

He had a very bad knee injury in the u21s and missed at least a year. Like... he just got started in 2013 and frankly injury was the reason why he didn't get back til 2015.

He turned down a contract offer from us and was training week to week. Klopp offered him a deal. He took it.

Give the lad a break.

I'd rather we sign someone with more experience than Willems. He's basically Moreno from 2 years ago, so we'd be gaining nothing by signing him.

Sign the finished product or just carry on trying to coach Moreno into improving defensively, because he's got some really good attributes that a lot of other full backs lack (pace, stamina, technique etc.).

The only question that needs asking is about the brain.

Moreno is brain dead. I do not think any amount to of coaching will turn him into anything resembling a reliable player.

If this lad or anyone else has a brain then it's an improvement

<laugh>
he has got a brain

he just leaves it in the changing room with his tacky clobber (all footballers seem to have zero taste) and picks it up on the way home

Its not that he doesn't have a brain, imo. He can defend perfectly capably for 88 minutes in a game. Its just he is prone to lapses in concentration, which isn't really acceptable at the highest level. Whether that can be ironed out of his game or not, I'm not too sure, but its not like he's completely incompetent like some players we've seen over the years like Biscan, Traore, Konchesky etc.

Well said. <ok>

Moreno was far better defensively at Sevilla so I do hold some hope that he will improve.

Not having a go at the lad - the point is how we're starting to sell our fringe players for good money.

[HASHTAG]#LFC[/HASHTAG] take former Barcelona youngster Juan Manuel Garcia on trial, and he started at left-back for the U21s. (Echo)

The new CB can apparently do a job at LB so maybe Klopp is thinking he can cover Moreno if anything happens. Don't agree with that thinking myself but Clyne can also do a job over there while Gomez played there a few times and looked decent last year.
