Find me a single signing by Man. City, Tottenham, etc that you think is overvalued by 20M?

In the case of Suarez it has only gotten worse as time went on as Liverpool will use the going rates of other top talent as a benchmark. (whether that is reasonable or not is not the point)

I'm a bit surprised about the criticism you have regarding the clear out, because I didn't hear too much in the way of complaints while he was doing it, and there were many many threads at the end of last year urging him to do it.

Where did I criticize the clear out???

I criticized the depth of our squad with 9 days to go till the league starts. The players were crossed in that pic to show how many first teamers we have now.
 
Yes but to clear out the deadwood there was always going to be a short period where we have a thin squad while we bring in replacements. Thats how a clear-out works.

Depth is definitely a problem still. Gnabry, Eisfeld and Bellerin being promoted might ease it somewhat but it's no position to be going into the new season with.

Those were already players we almost never used. It made no difference if they left or not, we needed reinforcements just the same. Our lack of quality depth has been exposed quite comprehensively during the last 2/3 seasons.

What you're looking there is not even a cover of 2 players per each position of any quality, let alone having solid competition for most places, which a team that intends to move toward the direction of winning things should have.

Arsenal have to haggle with the club, the player and any other parties involved. Conditions change dependent on circumstances, as we're seeing with how the Suarez-Liverpool relationship is crumbling. Liverpool might still not be willing to sell, but that could change in the next few weeks.
 
Read on Le10sport that we might be interested in Benzema. I am not sure he would want to leave Madrid but it could work out for all parties if Liverpool sel Suarez to Madrid. I think it's wishful thinking as the aforementioned source isn't the most reliable.

How many players would you say we need?

If we pay 55M for Suarez then we only have 45 million left for 3-5 other players at 15M - 9M. Are you saying that Suarez alone will cover our "Thin" squad. What kind of players will we get for 9M?

We need to negotiate price or walk away.
 
It's not necessarily a bad thing that Wenger still likes to hunt the bargain bucket but lets hope he actually goes all out to sign the players he really wants.


I would like to see us go back in for Lars Bender.

Also I'm suprised we havnt been linked to Benzema more strongly. Wenger has been after him for years and Real need money to fund the Bale transfer.
 
I can't see Madrid selling both Higuain and Benzema - two established first team players with good records and good reputation with the fans (afaik) in one transfer window.
 
Regarding El Jadeyaoui, he was trialed at Blackburn when he was 22 (was a ligue 2 player then as well apparently)

I know there can be cases where players from the lower leagues come and make it in a top league, but the guy has been a ligue 2 player since 2005... You'd think the french first division team scouts would have picked up on something if he really did have promise.

I'm interested in what it is Wenger and/or the scouts see in him (supposedly someone - Grimandi I'm assuming - watched him a number of times). Some wag will say 'it's cos he's cheap yuk yuk yuk' but there's bound to be more to it than that.
 
I'll reserve judgement on him until I've seen him play. Let's be honest, how many of us had even heard of Koscielny (bare with me) before he signed for us? And how many were up in arms over the fee paid for this player that had only been in Ligue 1 for one season? I was in both groups. Now I stalk him in my spare time...

Gervinho has gone for £8m supposedly. Roma's current coach, Rudi Garcia, managed him at Lille and got a lot out of him, so maybe he can do the same.

Should he score, I hope he modifies his celebration otherwise the Roma fans won't be best pleased:

I ****ing hope not. He is gash. Tbh any striker will be completely underwhelming after being linked with Suarez for so long. Even nicking Rooney off the Mancs ahead of Chelsea wouldn't make up for it.

There is over £150M CASH in the bank and that is not even including the massive financial influx we will be receiving over the year for new sponsorship deals.
