ARSENAL LATEST

BBC Sport's David Ornstein reports that Arsenal are hopeful of signing a left-back before the transfer window closes to cover for Kieran Gibbs, who is out for three weeks with a thigh injury.

Arsenal retain their interest in Barcelona striker David Villa but the ball is firmly in the Spanish club's court. Ornstein, who has come into work wearing a suit such is the magnitude of the day, says that Arsenal have also been linked with Cameroon international Gaetan Bong of Valenciennes.

Come on, just for his name i'd sign him up!

Looks like Arsenal have spent the whole transfer window making inquiries for a player who's not for sale and probably wouldn't want to join us anyway

I'd really love to hear the excuses from the blinker brigade if Wenger doesn't make any signings.

Piskie, you for one have been going on for weeks of how Arsenal have money to spend now, and so things will be different compared to before when money was tight, which was the main reasons for a lot of our struggles etc. You yourself even said Wenger should be properly judged now since he has the money.

So since we have the money, and it seems quite apparent that Wenger isn't spending it to improve the team, what next excuse will the blinker brigade come up with?

I'am worried about Wenger I think he may be having a mental breakdown
It happened to a mate of mine at work
Poor guy just sat staring into space (he got treatment and got better) He left his job though

Spanish football expert Andy West from his Barcelona base: "A new signing from Spain in the offing for Arsenal...but it's not David Villa. Radio Marca are reporting that Malaga's Nacho Monreal has caught a flight to London to negotiate terms with the Gunners.

"The 26-year-old is Malaga's first choice left back and a full Spain international. Malaga don't want to sell but it appears their financial problems have forced them to accept an offer reported to be in the region of £8m."
