I won’t quote you. But I will say that at your age you really need to complete your posts.

Starting a sentence with “T” and then not completing it opens you up to people suggesting you have lost your marbles.
I shouldn't be doing this but it is clear that you have not been initiated into the non-bedwetters code then? Stay dry for a whole month and you may be invited to join. Best maybe start by trying to get through a whole match dry.

Brighton invest heavily in young new talent, how much have they won again? It has to be a mix of youth and experience. Although Howe has played some youth, Miley, Hall and Tino. His hand was forced with Miley, Hall had to wait ages and you could argue Tino already had experience. The question is, if we unearthed the next superstar from south america, would Howe actually put him in or would we rely on them going out on a stella loan deal like the others?

Brighton pay the exact kind of money for the exact quality of player Newcastle should be after. It's not like all they do is find super cheap, they're not all like Mitoma (£5m) and Van Hecke (£2m), they also got Caicedo (£27m), Verbruggen (£20m), Baleba (£25m). The thing that stands out to me is they've paid more than double our record payment for a goalkeeper! We have got to be cannier in the market than we have been the past three years.

Ultimately you can't get it all right, all the time. Mistakes have been made - the GK situation I think far and above the biggest error in judgement from whoever was responsible. That said, there's a lot of sympathy for Howe too. We were hugely impacted by Saudi indecision around the CEO and Sporting Director, resulting in Howe (presumably) having to do too much in transfers. The knock on effect of being too slow in sponsorship deals, mainly because the PL scuppered our ability to do so with ATP rules, also had the impact of selling Anderson and Minteh.

So my take is we should be competing with Brighton, Brentford, Forest, Bournemouth for players almost every time - then when we have a really solid squad, with DIFFERENT options from the bench, upgrade just one of the subs with a ready-made player of any age.

If memory serves me correctly we've out performed said clubs since Howe was in charge.

I don't agree with any of these options... It's about getting good players and that's it. Being young or having PL experience is irrelevant, it's how good they are.

I've decided to vote for Option 3

I think PIF have a lot to answer for. Im not really impressed with them at all. Everything takes forever when they are involved. Hopefully they now believe they have the right man at the helm in Hopkinson and let hit make the decisions quicker. 1 year for a CEO appointment....... 4 years and waiting for a training ground/stadium decision. Where is the investment in the region?

Anyway, the poll should be updated to included European experienced players. I think a mix of that and youth is the key. Premium League players cost too much and the myth of hit the ground running is just that. Every signing is a risk and so 3 x £30m players instead of 1 x £90m means we are hedging the risk.

We should be signing players that are ready to take the spot of our best players from day 1 and leave it up to individual performances to merit who does and doesn't start.

That's the beginning and end of the transfer policy and it isn't rocket science.

Howe sometimes does things artificially. He places people in who are playing badly and just hopes they turn up, he doesn't allow the squad to naturally select itself based on who is actually playing best/can do the best against specific opponents.

I agree with the general transfer policy you espouse.

I'm sure you were one of the posters who vociferously panned EH for lack of rotation. Now you are planning him for rotating. If I'm right, make your mind up, what do you want. If I'm wrong, please forgive an old man whose memory is going.

ah the forum 'attack and apologise' approach, haven't seen that for a while :1980_boogie_down: We normally just go for 'attack and double down' approach.

The rotation idea is a funny one. What Howe has done, by effectively bulking the squad out with bang-average players who seemingly fit this turgid 4-3-3, is completely limit what he can do week in, week out. So what we are seeing with his idea of "rotation" is about 70% of his strongest team each week and a repeated reliance on players who are miles off it like Gordon, Elanga, Joelinton, even Woltemade, to somehow turn up. There's no sense of "ok, this week, we could work on a different approach to Sunderland - they're a real unit, so we'll need a strong line up - mentally and physically - to cope with it. They'll be pretty resolute, so the best bet would not be to camp 30 yards from their box by the right touchline and piss about with it - what we probably want to do is invite them on and hit them fast". Nothing like that happened.

What he actually admitted was "well, it worked against Everton, so I thought I'd do it again". I mean, really? Is that the limit?!
