he may not be everyones cup of tea, but lukas jutkiewicz will be high up on lambert's list. he is exactly the sort of striker he will move for.

How about Marvin Emnes from Boro? - he seems to have hit form and he's absolutely rapid apparently

didn't realise Lambert was on a rolling contract - thanks for clearing that up for me. On de Laat - I don't dislike him per se, I just think we've actually been more solid at the back without him. Granted, most of the defence have made errors of some sort during the first half of the season, perhaps it was his that irked me most of all. Irrational of me I'm afraid.

Isnt he a striker of the same ilk as holty and moro?? He scored only 9 goals last season(3pens) and for the £3mil being banded about with the interest of boro and soton, i think that is rather steep for a striker who barely finds the back of the net...

For the same price we could get a billy sharp or for a bit more a nicky maynard, strikers of real qaulty...

i know i say it a lot, but you mustn't just look at the goals scored column for strikers. lambert likes players with an all-round game and a good character and although he is as you say, quite similar to morison and holt in physique, he has other attributes too. having spoken to a couple of people 'in football circles', they believe that this lad will be in the premier league come january and seem pretty sure we are a likely destination.

Lambert has said in Press Conference to forget any big established wage earners - can't be done. Speculation in paper yesterday says he wants 4 new players

Im with superman on Jutkiewicz. Plus, his goal scoring record is not that bad actually- nine goals when he was 20/21. In this season so far his form looks good- 8 goals in 23 matches, and that's for a team at the bottom of the league so presumably creating very few chances...

its often difficult to stick out in a poor team as heads drop and players get dragged down, but he sticks out like a sore thumb. £3m is generally the going rate for a decent, young championship striker these days, ie sharp, maynard, morison etc

Unless Vaughan is long term, why is everybody looking for strikers. The ones we have are scoring goals. If anything sunk in from the Spurs game, its that if the two guys up front don't get the right service, we won't score.
And I think we have to accept we are going to have to make do with the defence we have. And I agree with Mid-way about De Laet. I know he's injured but I think he might be the pace we need in the middle and if he's fit I would go with him and Martin.
We are lacking an experienced clever midfielder who can come in and help run things. Mid-way and Dave will remember Trevor Hockey, a very combative midfielder, who for half a season, came in and kept us up in our debut season in the old 1st Division. I'm not suggesting we need a player of that style but someone who can hold onto it and stop giving it to the opposition. Perhaps to slow things down when we come under pressure or even to keep things calm when we go ahead.
Fox has his limitations. He'll give and go when we're on top but can be a passenger when we're not. Scott Parker personifies what I mean and I don't know if there is anyone out there who fits the bill and is available within our structure.
I just don't think its all down to strikers.

erm, i don't think people are suggesting we only buy strikers!!

we do need to address all areas i believe. a centre midfielder would be good, striker, winger and centre half. we may not get all those but we definitely need to add to what we already have, in all departments if possible.

fox is a quality player and in my opinion we should build our midfield around him whenever possible. when fox plays well, norwich play well. we pass the ball better and hoolahan always plays better when fox is on the field. i do think fox's game is helped when we play with width as he has more options. if you are looking to sign a parker type, they are few and far between, especially good ones, but surely thats what crofts does if you drop him deeper <ok>

I don't think Crofts or Johnson are that type of player at all. I'm talking about a Bossman (no, not that Belgian fool who cocked up football) who sets the tempo and style.

but thats what fox does, and does very well. if you are looking for someone like parker who does the graft AND the guile then we are limited to £10m+ transfer fees! there aren't very many of those floating about in world football let alone on our budget!!

indeed, just to add to that, not even man utd or chelsea have managed to find these type of players! spurs did very well to get parker but even then he is 32. i think you are trying to find a world class player and i don't think i've ever seen anyone do what you want them to do below top premier league/champions league level.

I'm afraid that was my point in the first place . . . "Scott Parker personifies what I mean and I don't know if there is anyone out there who fits the bill and is available within our structure."
IMO thats exactly what we need.
Come on man of steel you can't disagree with trying to improve the squad can you?

oh goodness no - we HAVE to improve the team if we want to stay up. i totally disagree with anyone who feels we can stick with what we have, no matter how well everyone has done, but my point was merely that you've highlighted an area of the field where there are no better replacements given our budget. i feel a winger as competition for bennett and pilkington would be a necessity along with a striker and a creative centre midfielder would be more important in my eyes than either a holding player or defender

Personally I would love us to try and sign Lallana from Southampton, but with sotons current position in the table and a hefty price tag I cant really see this happening!!
