With the money they had from 2 PL promotions they could (should) have set us up with a fit for purpose training centre for both the seniors and the academy, not revamped prefabs and renting of BB. I give them some credit for elevating the academy to cat 2 but let's not get carried away - they failed to leave the infrastructure that we should have had from 3 golden opportunities (2 under them).

Hull City head coach Sergej Jakirovic won't have any further additions to his squad for the start of the pre-season camp in Turkey and reinforcements are not expected at this moment for the opening two friendly matches of the summer after the club decided to place all transfer business firmly on hold.

The Tigers will make no further additions to the squad until the club finds out the outcome of their appeal against a three-window transfer fee ban placed on them by the EFL, which could come in the next week but is rated highly unlikely that it will come this week before the club depart for Turkey on Sunday.

Sources have told Hull Live that the club has two active transfer lists. One is based on the club being handed a ban and, therefore, being restricted to free transfers and loan arrivals, while the other is based on their original targets if the ban should be lifted.

Adding to the forward line remains a high priority and something they have not been able to do yet, which is a major worry given their struggles in front of goal. The club remain hopeful of agreeing a deal with Oliver McBurnie, but that deal is on hold for the time being.

Westerlo striker Matija Frigan could yet arrive on loan even if the ban remains in place, though the mechanics of that deal would likely come under EFL scrutiny.

While it looks unlikely at this stage, even if the ban remains in place for any duration, City have not given up hope of striking a deal for Oscar Zambrano. Given the young Ecuadorian can't play until November, having been banned for a year, there may well be scope to make that happen further down the line.

Bringing in a left-back remains a high priority, and the Tigers still want to add in midfield and out wide, but until the result of their appeal is known, little can be done either way, and they remain in a state of limbo.

Last year is repeating, we might not be lucky to survive this time if we repeat same mistake.

Last years trip to Turkey was a total waste of time and it is one thing I actually felt sorry for Walter about. Looks like this years is going the same way.

I said it last year, I will say it again. Turkey is great for warm winter camp, not for summer. They need an altitude camp.

Obviously Acun/the club are in a really difficult position now due to the embargo and maybe can't win, but seeing this story that we're again going to put all our business on hold is very disappointing. This was the one thing we all said we needed to not do this summer, and now it's seemingly being quietly slipped out alongside everything else that yes, we'll be doing it again. So pre-season with no attackers again and then desperation signings on deadline day, meaning another season of toil and hardly any goals. Wonderful.

If it means that by January, we are free to do what we need to do ( and be in a better position financially) and with a manager who has been in this position of no funds before, I'm optimistic that we could be in a better position than last Christmas. I've been out cutting the hedge all morning up a ladder.. (dont plant laurels anyone ) 2 cans of Red Bull and a Lucozade sport, so I might be a bit delirious. BTW only 32 degrees in Turkey rising to 34 for the next week...

I’m aware of that, but if he’s is supposedly a priority, then surely we’d have him already, or at the very least not be putting him on the back burner.
I doubt he’s coming anyway, we’ll end up with a Turkish connection player who was always the “No 1 target!”

I don't think we have been putting him on the back burner. A few who tend to know reckon we upped our offer in the last couple of days.

He'll sign for who he wants when he wants. No club can force his hand, but our recent issues won't have made us any more attractive.

And that aside, it's not the first time a name like this has been dangled early in a window for it not to materialise.

Tbh I'm sceptical (have been from the start) that any strong likelihood he'd come here was anything much more than smoke and mirrors.

Always gonna be interest from more attractive clubs.

In our situation, I think it's a big positive that Sergej plans to adapt tactics etc to our teams strengths and what we have available. Not expecting a great start but might just make things a little more comfortable while we ride things out.

We are in Yorkshire so we have other teams in our county. Norfolk only has Norwich City, Suffolk only has Ipswich Town. Kent only has Gillingham, Cumbria only has Carlisle. If you are declaring the East Riding is a complete county like Cornwall you will have to include Middlesbrough on the list as they are the only team in North Yorkshire. Our scouting has been crap for years going back to when my kids were playing junior football over 30 years ago. Leeds always had people about, saw scouts for Chelsea and Villa watching junior games but never City. Leeds have a number of lads from Brid and district with Leeds now. I know two of their parents, one a City fan and one a Sheff Utd fan. I asked them why their kids were at TWS as they both dislike them. Simple they said, Leeds were the only club that asked them along.

Fair enough, but I was referring to professional clubs within the county - North Yorkshire also has York City and Harrogate Town as well as Boro. Cumbria has Carlisle and Barrow, while Kent has Ebbsfleet and Maidstone United who are both professional (for now). Norfolk is a good example, but then Norwich have done exactly what we should have done which is develop a youth system of high quality with the PL money they got, which allowed them to reach category 1 status.

For whatever reason, City have been needlessly specific in what they were looking for with younger players, which has meant we've probably missed out on a fair few.

I agree. There are players we could be negotiating with now. We’ve been negotiating with McBurnie for weeks but it seems like that’s put on hold for now, based on the latest Hull Live article.

We need bodies in midfield and there’s still some decent midfielders available as free agents. With Simons gone, Alzate looking more like to leave than stay and Zambrano not coming or even available, we need depth. Mathias Normann, Jaïro Riedewald, Gökhan Gül, Loreintz Rosier, Ervin Omić etc. aren’t ’statement signings’ but decent number 6s and are far better options than Shelvey. If nothing else, they’d be solid depth if by some miracle the fee restriction is expunged entirely and we can buy another midfielder. We could also make a contract offer to Kenneth Paal as well as we need a left-back.

There’s absolutely no reason for the club to twiddle their thumbs whilst they wait for the appeal hearing.

Since you mention Simons I've got to say it again: it's just so careless that we discard solid, reliable and cheap players like him as if we can do so much better when the reality is that for one reason or another we repeatedly fail to build a team of players better than that and we always end up relying on that sort of player time and time again once the season gets going. We shouldn't need to sign a load of midfielders to bulk out the squad, we had a perfectly decent young player on a reasonable wage who would've done that job. All of that applies to Jacob too.

I know I'm repeating this point all summer but I find the unearned arrogance of our approach to player trading so frustrating.
