Transfer Day Expectations.

I don't think this will go over very well but if indeed we are truly talking about 20 million for Semenyo then he has to go because at some point or another they will all come sniffing at our doorstep for a bargain. Despite my misgivings about him he has really upped the ante over the last six months or so and is now clearly visible in the shop window and the only argument now is the price. I can never see Bristol City as a destination of choice and so we become a clearing house for the home built products making their way to become the best that they can be for another team touting more ambition than us. If we should decide to cash in on some our best assets then bring it on, but for goodness sake spend the money more wisely than has been the case on previous occasions. To be perfectly blunt I don't truly think that we will be in the mix approaching the midnight hour on transfer day. Why start now after years of apathy during January?

Even if we sold him for £20 million we would be lucky to get £2m on recruitment. We are skint!

I sort of agree with much of this, but the player has all the power these days, none of the players that we have sold to premier league clubs, could have been denied their chance whilst keeping them
happy and let’s be honest we showed our total lack of ambition in January 2018 with a ****ty window when we were riding high and won was it 3 out of the next 20 odd games. That wouldn’t inspire one of those players we sold to maybe stay longer and who could blame them? Also as you rightly point most of the profit was then squandered on overpaid crappy and vanity signings.

We’ve got to try and reduce the money in the red by the time the next accounts are published. We are at risk of breaching unless we get some money. So the likelihood is any money we receive in transfer fees will go into the accounts rather than out in transfers.

This is why I’m excited by NP as our boss, I’m sure we are much less likely to fritter it away. He seems now to have managed to negotiate the short term that I feared may be his downfall. I can’t wait.

The main reason for our financial difficulties is COVID, there will be allowances for that I’m sure. I’m aware things are tight I just think we aren’t any worse off than most championship teams. There is also talk of Webster and Kelly to mention 2 off the top of my head that may bring some cash in if they move on .

True, but they’re not moving in this window so it may be cash in now and lose our momentum this season. It’s not a surprise that our form picked up with his fitness.
 
Louis Britton set for Waterford loan
Just as I write about no players leaving on loan, Louis Britton is understood to be heading to Waterford FC in the League of Ireland First Division on a temporary deal until the end of the season.

Britton is out of contract in the summer and recently impressed on trial at Derry City, scoring two goals in two games before returning to Bristol City last week.

Prolific at Under-23 level, there have been regular calls from fans for him to be given a chance in the first-team - having scored on his Championship debut against Brentford last May - but Nigel Pearson hasn't taken to the former Mangotsfield United frontman.

In September, Pearson claimed the 20-year-old wasn't physically ready to train with the senior team, let alone play regularly.

As I said on another thread, many of our rivals seemed to have faired better than us financially or don’t care about FFP, most of them seem to be bringing players in.

It’s a balance, our championship status is worth multi million £’s, if we sell our best players and don’t replace them and end up being relegated we’ll be in bigger do do.
 
Kasey Palmer update
We expect Kasey Palmer to remain a Bristol City player by tomorrow morning unless something dramatic happens.

Cardiff's loan offer does not suit The Robins or the player and only a late bid could tempt the club into letting him leave permanently.

So as it stands, they'll be no major outgoings at Ashton Gate.

there is probably only about 6 -7 in the mire! It is a fairly unbalanced situation FFP.
a team coming down has about 3 years to get back up before it has to "worry about FFP!" chances are when PP ends they will be close to break even, so 5 or 6 years after could be their danger time!
A team coming up likely to have a fairly low gate [ as an average ] Peterbro annual income is circa £11m so a whole group of teams will struggle to lose £39m even if they spend twice their income!
the 6 -7 in mire! well City was in the ascendancy getting "better players" and having to pay higher wages .. OK if it works! with normal gate income and odd sale we could have been bouncing along +/- £8m to +/- £10m with odd big sale WSC

What is unbalanced is teams with PP hardly going to be - £38m teams on low gates budgets hardly likley to reach - £38 in 3 years.

Reading and Derby tried to buy their way .. there is still 2 or 3 that might be in that boat at the moment! [ not City .. yet ]
