I understand why you'd say that TC, but it's not about arrogance, it's about incorrect tactics. You weren't set up to attack us by playing through the middle of the park, but either down the wings or over the top on the break, so two holding players doesn't help at the back and doesn't create, either. We stifled ourselves and totally failed to do the same to you.
Yeah, it's not aimed at all of you, apologies. It's just your board contains the most kiddies on here.
I would suggest it is about arrogance when someone uses the term - ****ing Norwich?. Yes we are a mickey mouse team (or so many people think). The tactics I would agree with, playing 1 up front at home (and Defoe in particular) is not what I would call "going out to win". We played 4-4-2 for the entire 90 minutes which, for an away game, is quite rare in the PL and for us but it is what us fans have been crying out for and finally today we got it and got something out of the game. I do not know if CH knew what your likely starting XI would be but if he did then he got it spot on, on the day. We set the midfield to stop Bale (mostly) and in fairness he did not get the room he enjoyed against us last season. It was kept narrow and on the day it worked. I guess most Norwich fans might even feel we should have taken all 3 points and perhaps if we did it would have been deserved. As opposed to "rubbishing" the opposition it would be better to vent the anger at AVB & co. He showed what a clown he was last season at Chelsea and tbh I was gobsmacked when Spurs appointed him. I really think that was a huge mistake and I hope you can recover from it when you finally get rid of him.
Thats just how fans view home games against teams like Norwich, West brom and Fulham, yes its arrogance and yes it comes back to bite us on the backside when we play crap but the fact is the large majority of our fans believe we just need to play well and we should hammer Norwich. However whos having the last laugh, you! while we're pissed off. I agree we shouldn't be arrogant but I'm sure when you was getting promoted there was teams in the division you thought "home game, dead cert".
Its more about rubbish execution than incorrect tactics imho. This system should suit Defoe more than any other. We are supposed to be pressed high up the pitch with the front three midfielders in close support of Defoe. Therefore all he needs to do is control it and pass it to one of those three. He shouldn't need to hold it up. But we didn't actually do that and left a big gap both in the centre of midfield and between the the front three and Defoe. Bale and Lennon did almost nothing, neither did Sig. I still think this system suits us and we will do much better with once the players have worked it out. i was hoping that we would do OK in the two home games even while learning it, but we've given two terrible goals away which again is nothing to do with systems or tactics, just mistakes.
Didn't do a lot wrong. To quote Robbie Savage, of all people: ""That was never, ever, ever a red card in a million years. When he appeals on that, that should be changed, rescinded."
That is true, It was harsh but if the appeal does not go through then he will miss a good opertunity to get in the team with the new boys coming in. ahhh I dunno im just dissapointed with everything. I hope it works out well
I can, up to a point, understand why fans of teams in the top 6 or so, believe they should beat us (especially at home) but in all the years I have followed the Canaries (whichever league, wherever we are in that league) I have never been of the opinion that any game is easy (even when we were a top team ourselves in the early 90's). Maybe it's just me but I believe a little respect can go a long way but I take you point that most fans perhaps do not think that way. I am sure we had many fans believed we would batter the **** out of Doncaster in the run in when they were in turmoil but we held on to a 1-1 draw and there were cries of derision for a few days following that pretty awful display. Yes Spurs were poor today, by their standards, and you should expect more from the team and I would never disagree with that and as fans we expect out team to perform just about every week but the reality is it doesn't always work out that way and we have to try and live with it
I intended to disrespect nobody. However, you are hardly City, Chelsea, or Man U. We are a supposed top 4 side. I would expect that we would go on the offensive against teams like Norwich, at home. Not play two holding DM's!
First, Norwich deserved at least a point, maybe three. As putrid as AVB has been, he's been brilliant compared to Levy. It was Levy who sacked our best manager in decades, Levy who hired AVB, Levy who failed to get AVB the player he clearly felt was key to his fortunes, and Levy whose sheer incompetence left him unable to get a suitable replacement because he ran out of time. As to how bad AVB has been...well, he's determined to jam whatever square pegs he has into the same set of round holes, but this should have been clear from the beginning. I still would have liked to see what he could do if he had Moutinho. As it is, the pressing 4-3-3 with what he has is a recipe for dire, mediocre football. But the real culprit is Levy, who's managed to make both attractive football and winning things of the past in stunningly little time. I think losing out on CL last year unhinged him. He's been acting like a madman ever since.
and as I said before, so would I. AVB is an idiot, sorry guys but how he made a name for himself I just do not know. He clearly demonstrated today all his failings at Stamford Bridge last season. However, and I accept things were not right when we played you at the lane last season, with Harry in charge you were better than today (by some margin) and yet somehow we still managed to upset the odds. Why you guys think these games should be a stroll with this current manager in place I just do not know. He might (maybe) prove me wrong but I would not be surprised if you have yet another new manager by the end of the season. As I have no dislike for THFC I wish you well for the season and hope you can turn things around but I suspect you could be in for a very frustrating season.
im not going to get on to AVB here, it's just bloody ridiculous. the man has had 3 games in charge, is finding his feet and is trying to implement something which will takeus forward. we look rusty and are making mistakes, but I can see where it's going and the style/posession has the right idea behind it. we have a slight issue IMO, which is the defensive 2. this isn't working, but i'm now starting to think that it's to do with the players and not the tactics. The problem lies with players like livermore. he's a good player, but with this new formation, he's just not suited to it. the defensive players need to be able to play that role, but they need other elements to their game and more weapons in their armoury. sandro has these qualities to succeed whenhe gets used to what's require from him as an allound game package within this formation, but livermore doesnt. Parker might be that man to fix things, but I can see him struggling to adjust too. we need the "modric" replacement in that position. someone who can sit and defend when needed, but someone who can also get forward, before returning to help out defensively. a box to box midfielder. Joao Moutinho. that deal should have been wrapped up. we are desperate for the qualities he possesses and we're going to really struggle with out a player of is type, his attributes and his intelligence, sat in that position. Defoe will not work in his position at all, ever, IMO. he just doesn't possess the necessary attributes to do so. end of, as far as I'm concerned. dembele has shown us today just what he's got in the locker. we couldnt ask for much more from someone who signed a couple of days ago and doesn't even know his team mates. what a start and about the only positive thing today other than BF. - but what if he gets injured? we have no other game changing players of world class stature, becausewesold both of them. (yes I know why we did, and the business decisions made sense, but they should have been replaced). must like fulham have had their heart ripped out by losing dembele and dempsey, we've had the same treatment losing VDV and modric with no replacements of the same ilk made. we've very short of game changers. i'm really disappointed i Levy, despite the quality he's signed. we've just not done enough, not got enough options and overall it's a real let down. but I refuse to blame AVB. the signs are there for improvement, but I don't think he's got the strength in the squad to make his ideas work, unfortunately.
Well said. Maybe I am too quick to blame AVB--but not Levy. As I have said, not getting Moutinho is absolutely unforgivable.
