Yep competition for places is good, Hugo has shown he's better than Brad, so he should play v Chelsea.

<laugh>

Hugo has played 2 games for us and he was below average in the EL - his 'attempted save' for their goal was something I'd expect of a dire Sunday League goalkeeper.

He was average against Villa - the things he did any keeper in the PL does and he nearly screwed it all up with a bad throw. And let's face it - it's Villa. Anyone of us could go in goal and Spurs would still keep a clean sheet.

I know he's talented and I'm happy that we signed him and I'm happy that he'll be our #1 - who plays in the upcoming matches should be down purely to who looks sharpest in training.

sorry don't agree, can't see how you come to that conclusion.

Easy, Lloris has a better goals per game conceded rate than Friedel with Spurs, and he is also rated higher in world football than Brad, plus he is captain of France. He's better than Brad and if you can't see that, that's your problem not mine.

I would say that the average worked out over three games is indeed an excellent comparison to an average worked out over an entire season. So if Hugo concedes two against Chelsea I could rightly say "Oh my God - this guy's goals conceded stats have just increased by 200%! That is unforgivable!"

Plus "rated higher in world football" means what exactly? I did not realise that there were objective measures of these things now. Or do you just mean what the French/Spanish/German/Lithuanian equivalent of Andy Gray thinks?

To be fair you've been very excited about Lloris from the outset purely based on his reputation and what you've seen written about him it seems. You were going on about how he was "Our second world class player alongside Bale" as if terms like "world class" actually meant anything.

It is certain that he will replace Friedel as number one. It is highly likely that he is, indeed, very good. But if you were to go by what you've actually seen of him in a Spurs shirt you would realise that there are still creases to be ironed out as you would expect with a new, foreign keeper who is new to the English game.

Imagine if we signed a keeper who was generally recognised as one of the best in Europe? Who plays for one of if not THE best international team in the world? Who holds the current record for clean sheets in one of the better European leagues? Who's been chased by some of the top clubs in Europe and would become one of the most expensive keepers in history? Step forward Heurelho Gomes.

I guess he'd walk into your team, though. Facts and figures like that.

Probably the best post I have seen on this subject. Well said sir.

Lloris is better than Brad, doesn't shy away from the physical side like Brad, has better stats than Brad, and is more highly rated than Brad. He is also captain of France, he should start v Chelsea.

Er. I'm getting a bit of deja vu here. Just to clarify, which of the two keepers has better stats and is more highly rated? And isn't one of them captain of some underwhelming European national team?

Based on 2 games!!

Blimey we have a keeper thats never conceded in the PL...first name on the sheet then!

On another thread, it is claimed Lloris has "enough" PL experience...one game v hapless Villa!

Mods, I suggested last week there was a bit of wumming going on here (admittedly a bit too strongly) but come on, look at this now, he's admitted an agenda, this isn't being backed into a corner, this is pure rubbish designed to antagonise, its beyond debate.

:emoticon-0148-yes: this!!

Just ignore it Notso, we all know where eachother stands on Lloris/Friedel there's no point getting wound up everytime it's mentioned.

So, after reading pages of Friedel Vs Lloris, I think this video just about sums up the debate

Disturbingly accurate, Moorpheus! <laugh>
I'm just happy that we've got plenty of good keepers. As long as they're all happy and we keep winning, then it's all good.
