I can't see him surviving beyond the January window when we'll buy another striker so no to negotiations.
Likening somebody to a chimp is what I used to do in infants school. I've read a report that Evra will be available in January and that we should sign him, any reasons why not?
No better than Rose by that time imo. Rapidly losing pace as he gets older and has abit of an attitude about him. Evra will only go downhill from now.
Disagree, TJ. Evra would add some much needed experience to us and he's still quality. I don't think it will happen and that's a shame because he's the kind of signing that can still give Rose plenty of hope for being first choice in the future, if he progresses enough. I don't think it will happen though because I don't think he wants a project, he's too old and probably just wants a last big payday. With 2 French sides rolling in money at the moment and all the other usual suspects I expect him to find the bags of money somewhere if he leaves United.
Disagree there TJ. Evra still looks as good as he was since first joining Utd. If anything, last season was his best season for them, chipped in with a few goals in an another title winning season for Utd and I'm pretty sure he captained them on occasions. To say that by January he'll be no better than Rose is odd in my opinion. Even at 32 he's one of the best full backs in Europe right now, Rose is still learning the position and is still defensively weak. And Rose by no means has a good attitude either, he's made it clear he'd happily leave Spurs to get games. Doesn't really give me the best of impressions he's willing to fight for a place. Evra is a winner and has a determined attitude, something I like in a player. Look at Gallas when he initially joined, he has similar characteristics to Evra in terms of being a winner and a determined/ aggressive attitude, in his first season and even spells of his second he was immense, it was only last season where his legs gave way and he was 34/35 then. I really can't see Spurs getting Evra though. Utd wouldn't want to sell unless they get Baines. Even then there's no guarantee they'd let him go then just in case Baines needs time to adapt.
Makes you wonder why Moyes seems so desperate to get a left back in though. Baines and Contraeo both pursued during the last window. Doesn't look like he fancies Evra.
Yeah it's a weird one. As good as Baines is, I'm actually surprised Utd are going in for him. Baines is 29 in December and so it's not like he's a youngster to come in and be a long term successor to Evra. Evra himself still has 1 possibly 2 more years of good football in him. Amazed no one has made any concrete offers for Luke Shaw. That lad is the future LB of the England national team.
Keep seeing articles of this Nicolas Spolli claiming he rejected us. 30 year old Catania CB. 1) I never heard of us being linked with him throughout the summer. 2) Is he any good?
You might want to listen to Luke about Evra guys, I'm pretty sure he wouldn't mind him sold, but I can't recall his exact reasoning, so i hope he see's this. A more worrying 'Moyes don't fancy him' is Kagawa, now there's a player that would suit us, he wouldn't come to us I know, but if he don't get games he'll be away in Jan, it'll ruin his WC prep if he doesn't.
Why would he suit us when we have Eriksen, Holtby, Siggy and Dembele all able to play that position. He may be better than any of them, but not by much and we can't keep switching everyone about. We've bought our team now and I would only buy to fill weak spots - full back basically, and only if Rose/Walker/Naughton don't show much before January.
I was only speaking hypothetically and with the benefit of hindsight, and thinking about how nice it would be to prise a player away from United for once, but if want my opinion, he is better than what we've bought, and his industry up to and around the 18yd box in that area between MF and attack is what we've been complaining we lack, so thats the reason he'd suit us.
Never heard of him either, but it wouldn't surprise me. Baldini must know the ins and outs of Italian football quite well - perhaps he's the understated Ashley Williams character of Serie A.
Agree with this - I'd have Kagawa in a heartbeat - a very good player who gives his all. Still not keen on Evra but if the rest of you think he'd be worth a punt I see no reason why not, he wouldn't cost much anyway so not a massive risk. I was sceptical about Gallas but he turned out alright!
I was going to spare SD that! MD will never be any good there and this what I think. We've all seen his previous attempts at it, waste of time. When he's got a player or two round him in the middle of the park, firstly there's more room, this helps him with his technique of going past people. Looks to me like he waits for the opponent to shift there weight on one leg then knocks it past 2/3/4yds the other side so they can't stick a leg out, its a very cute skill. He can then use his frame to breeze past. Round a congested 18yd line you do not get this space he likes to knock the ball into, and imo why he runs out of ideas, knows his shooting is ****, and looks to give it simple to our wide players.
He's been our advanced midfielder recently. Plays the same position, but not the same role. Granted not the playmaker type like the others, but I would argue that's been his position when we have Capoue and Paulinho alongside him.
I didn't see swanse/arsenal games: Holtby played there against Tiblisi leg 2. He supposedly played there in leg 1 but in reality it was Sig again. Sig played there against Palace. Am i just unlucky/lucky in missing the games where he plays there?
