The money recouped far outweighs the misses. A lot of these were loans, which naturally expire. Some were allowed to let contracts run out, mainly by NP. And, some are still at the club and amongst our best players. So don't stoop to Redprintt's level of bringing up "the 65" .... Oldham, Barnsley, Bristol City, Sunderland and maybe Hibernian, no honours, no promotions and no successes on LJ's CV. Not true he won the EFL Trophy at Sunderland! https://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/football/56373623#:~:text=Sunderland succeed Salford City as,League One Portsmouth on penalties. Either way, no honours, particularly as a young manager, doesn't mean you are not good. There are many good managers out there with zero honours to their name. Same with players Harry Kane will shortly become England's all-time leading goalscorer, but not an honour to his name, so by your definition, does that make him no good?
confucious...! EFL CUP? AND SET UP 2 managers with the teams he had set up! ... 51.3 % win ratio at Sunderland ... from 78 games [ won 40 alex neil 50% from 24 games [won 12 ] thinkhis cv might not carry loads of cups / lge's but certainly manages to build a goodsquad for others .... not my opinion just factoids
Talk about deflections, what ever has Harry Kane got to do with LJ, one is a proven, class act, who has been honoured with playing for his country many times, the other a failed, lower league manager who has been sacked twice for non achievment and won nothing major ever as a player, coach or manager, sorry he was asked once if he would consider playing for Gibraltar as granny was born there. Tin pot cup that Cotts won with Bristol City, yep LJ did win that one with Sunderland, you are correct, I'm not stooping, LJ was involved in signing 65 plus players, 4 or 5 very valuable that were sold on for club survival, admittedly all over 4.5 years,he also had a contract extension and his collusion with MA did lead to a £38 .4m debt and threats about FFP rules being broken. Talk about LJ losing 5 key players and causing mass disruption within the squad, look what NP lost and don't tell me that didn't cause any disruption when that lot left - Listed below - NP took the hit and recovered as this seasons results have so far demonstrated, Full list of released Bristol City players 2020/21 Hakeeb Adelakun Famara Diédhiou Rene Gilmartin Jack Hunt Henri Lansbury Adrian Mariappa Jamie Paterson Tommy Rowe Liam Walsh Marley Watkins
"And, some are still at the club and amongst our best players." Totally overlooked by the hating brigade.. Key players too
LJ has got qualities of that there is no doubt, he is still active and enjoying employment in his coaching role, I don't recognise those qualities personally, never have but he had a good crack with us, he enjoyed total faith and commitment from our owner, financially and personally, the fan base was split in its support for him, he enjoyed 4.5 years in the Championship, he failed in achieving the targets SL required and was sacked, I wish him well on his current health issues. Nige is now the Guv and the Bristol City FC story continues, and long may that be, I hope.
the present is the importance ... the past is the springboard to the future, and hopefully we learned from it! .. and the future is what we achieved in the present, bolstered by what was learned in the past! .. good or bad points
looking at a wider picture ... just league games ... number played and goals scored BCFC is down the table a bit probably 8th or 9th! BUT never the less doing OK .. just need to tighten the defence to get the GD up
I can honestly say that Lee Johnson was a better DM than Harry Kane will ever be. I can also say with confidence that LJ is currently a better football manager than Kane. Kane is a better striker than Lee is or was though - I grant you that. Kane also plays for his country. LJ turned down the request to play for his. I also admit that Kane is taller.
