There is method in the madness. <yikes> And we don't even need to win 5 out of 5 ...

3rd: Chelsea LWWW 70 points
4th: Liverpool WDWWW 67 (GD better than WH)
5th: West Ham - LWWW 67
6th: Leicester WLL 66
7th: Spurs LWWW 65

Weirder things have happened. Chelsea looking strong but lose against City today . Leicester will win easily against a weakened MU but lose their last 2 matches. We’ll win today but draw against MU. West Ham will lose today but win their next three against teams already on hols. Spurs could appear on the horizon if they somehow avoid defeat against Leeds but will just miss out.

Still possible.

It is possible but reality is that we will likely lose on Thursday with our CB pair playing. Neither are PL quality and it will show. Pulling Fab back to CB has an equal negative effect. Hope they prove me very wrong.
We may be vulnerable at the back but so will they be without Maguire. New CB pairing for about 2 years. The key will be : are we going to put away the number of chances that we’ll create? Also about whether they rest their key players today.

I was watching carragher trying to explain city and Cheslea game in terms of cb aggression and being one to one and comfortable with it. Our great "friend" neville took a breif pause from baiting us to admit at valencia he totally ****ed up trying to coach an archaic defensive system.

It was interesting in that you can equate the same type of thinking to how our team used to defend. I would go made at matip chasing someone up the park leaving gaps but in reality he was doing what klopp wanted.

simply put phillips can stand there all day deep heading balls and hoofing clearances out but he cannot do what is required around to park to drive teams back. same for williams.

It also explained why chelsea couldn't defend under frank lampard. Neville was in awe of how quick tuchel could teach this system but i was thinking hello, azpi, silva and rudiger!! proper defenders who actually know what they are at are easier to instruct in the system. it took all of what? 2 week? for cheslea to radically improve.

We all wondered why chilwell was dropped for alonso at the start, again alonso would know what to do to drop in when a cb goes chasing.

In effect its not "pace" we need its the ability to understand the game and get aggressive with forwards and play them 1 on 1.

Rashford will scare the knickers off whoever plays RCB and we will be going backwards.

We need pace too. Plus the quality of VvD to launch an attack. I thought Kabak was coming along nicely, shame he is injured. Nat Philips is what he is, as soon as this crisis is over, he’ll be moved on. If we play Williams, we need to score a hatful or we are doomed. If we play Fab at CB it’s more about damage limitation. Good to see Mane back scoring mind.

we do, but watching what carragher was talking about cheslea not being 343 but 4231 when a cb just goes hunting whoever drops off it was interesting to watch rudgier and azpi in the opponents half killin city and it wasn't with pace but in at the back you've christensen and the other cb (depending on which went) in 1v1s so a ball over the top and its a race.

City's goal came form christensen not being in the right position so that ball over top was possible.

I have to agree. Nat phillips is a hard working nice guy but he is just not ever up to that game style. Same for williams.

what was also nice is mane finished his 4 yard office chance too. at least it was ontarget lol.

The run in is not only top 4 fun but also europa disaster at the other end.

I updated the OP with the results as well.

As it stands 70 points is golden for Champions league with both Leicester and chelsea within striking distance of that line, and it could shift even lower as everyone keeps saying

As it stands also Everton are determining the minimum for Europa at 67 points ;) though all 4 current in the range can reach that.

For the chavs? Fck that.

No genuinely, just looking at the table it brings it down to 7 points and you have 4 games, they have 2.

In the end chelsea v Leicester is the biggie but we need to win them all. After that game we will see both only need to fall over the line

Looks like you're still in it the way things are going with Chelsea tonight.

If they'd lost to Man City maybe. No chance we'll win all our remaining games, we certainly won't beat you ****ers.

In the end if Chelsea win 2 they can't be caught.

If Leicester win 2 they cannot be caught

So for about 22 hours the scenario exists that with 4 wins Liverpool can get 4th of someone.

If Leicester lose 1 they will be catchable on 69 points. With Chelsea headed for 70.
If Chelsea and Leicester draw then Leicester can't be caught but Chelsea max is 68.
If Leicester win then Chelsea max is 67 but gd is tough.

So bask in the knowledge we have yet another chance to throw this away tomorrow :emoticon-0136-giggl

There's a lot of variables still remaining. Chavs losing completely takes the pressure off us for finishing 2nd. We'll go all out tomorrow knowing if we win, it's 2 weeks off before the europy final. Having said that, we could be knackered tomorrow and/or you'll be up for it more so I'm really not that confident.

Then there's the game between chavs and lesta. Whoever loses that is still prone to bottling it with the pressure on after that. And Chelsea will also be having one eye on the CL final.

As long as nobody decides that if we are losing we might as well shatter Fernandes' ACL.

We are not yard dogs after all.
