Odd that De Zebri has announced he is leaving Brighton the day before they play Manchester United and is is of course linked to becoming their next manager
To be honest I do too. But it’s in our own hands. We win then there is no issue. Lose and we finish 8th and that’s a disaster of a season.
Caused by the tactics the medical and a bit of unluckiness. Facts is over a 38 game season injuries or not if we finish 8th it’s a disaster.
I’ve just stated the possibilities we will never know which is the right answer. Fact is though if we finish 8th it is likely below expectations with the owners given the amount spent. Having said that I agree injuries have had a significant impact but we take it all into consideration. Win and 7th is about right.
I don't really get how 7th can be "about right" yet one place lower is a "disaster". I mean I get it's possibly the difference between qualifying for European football, but we could finish 7th and still not make ECL if Man United win the cup.
I will try and explain my logic. We need to finish in Europe. That was the target set. 8th is bad for us in some respects although I do get the 1 game a week theory next season. Ideally we finished 4th and get champions league but of course that didn’t happen mainly because of injuries. And finally I think 6th or 7th is about right for our squad of players. Last season we got luck with a lot of teams under performing.
You said they were caused. Not these are the possibilities. You also said that they were maple caused by tactics and not unlocking which is clearly not true. Yes following those bizarre and unlucky injuries we picked up other injuries due to lack of squad depth quality. 8th is not a disaster. 7th isn’t suddenly that much better either. Yes we finished higher last season and yes expectations will therefore be raised but I can’t imagine the powers that be at the club are that concerned. £400m in 2 years is great but then we were so far behind the rest that that amount has put us on a par with mid table teams so in all honesty we’re exceeding where we should be.
Net spend over the last five years (not 2) is 5th but let’s not let that get in the way. https://www.football365.com/news/transfers-premier-league-five-year-net-spend-man-utd-man-city
