How do you know this exactly?

Back to the subject though, im not exactly excited about signing him. Not a great defender yet, im all for buying for the future but i want a solid defender now to cover injuries, not someone who will be good in a few years.

Fairly certain that's what the figure mentioned was because he was huffing because we wouldn't pay him that for 3-4 year deal

Trouble is they cost twice as much.

Im sure if Carr can find a player like Cabaye for £5mil he can find a better defender than Tomkins for £4mil+

Good business on both clubs part. He will have been worth every peny to West Ham if he continues to fire them into the PL. Done really well for them and I'd imagine he is bringing just as much off the pitch as he is on it. We got good money and we replaced him with Cabaye who will be a world beater in PL terms by this time next season. (if he doesn't join Man U in the close season which I think he will) Worked out well all round although I'm sure Nolan would have preferred to stay put.

Class act and as much I dislike Allerdyce I wish Nolan well because he was great for our club. Doing a similar job for them. Helped galvanise them, captain, they in the running for promotion straight back up and he is scoring goals again. The disparaging way some of our fans speak about him now just shows how fickle some of our support is.

He, as our captain, decided to abandon us in the summer because we wouldn't offer him a long-term deal, thus sparking the exits of two other players. He also maintained complete silence when Joey and Jose were waging their war against Ashley on Twitter specifically over his exit from the club.

I will be grateful for what he did in the Championship season, and to a lesser extent the first season back up, but his actions this year have tainted him in my eyes.

£4mill for Tomkins doesn't seem like our usual 'value for money' type deal, unless Carr & co think he's improved.

i honestly lost a bit of respect for nolan and barton. i think they knew how they was loved by the fans and tried to use it to bargain themselves better deals. i remember reading a joey interview where he said himself and nolan was on the clubs bonus committee, apparently it all stemmed from that as we wouldnt give them added bonuses from the previous season.. in my opinion you should let the love of the club drive you to success rather than money. they began to think they was bigger than the club.. that attitude got us relegated and they should have known better than to go down that route.. now look at them, championship and relegation candidates, but hey, at least they have there money in their pockets now

Thats simply not true. When are people going to understand that players moving on is part and parcel of modern football, particularly where contracts cannot be agreed. Nolan simply wanted to secure his football and financial future and, quite rightly, felt he had earned it. he probably also wanted some guarantees over first team football which they could not give him due to Cabayes impending arrival. The club while grateful to him took a different view in that they probably thought him to have limited time left and a longer deal represented too much of a risk. Both parties are correct in their thinking, its just one of those things. He is going to feel slightly bitter about it because he liked the club, the club less so because they had the younger Cabaye coming in anyway.

Its just a normal footballing scenario and I find it bizarre that people now dislike him or have lost respect for him. These guys don't employ agents to allow football clubs to **** them up the arse, they employ them to get them the best possible deal. As for sparking the exit of two players? Who? Jose was leaving regardless and so was Joey. Jose had seen enough and Joey had his situation with the board. Nolan had nothing to do with or had any bearing on either of those scenarios.

I cant say this pursuit gets me excited at all... I've never watched the lad play other than when Best destroyed them.

Everyone here seems to hav e negative views on him as well... Is he any better than that Rhys Williams or Leon Dunk, etc...

He is a very good player. Best centre back in the Championship. West Ham fans think he is great

    If we signed him, our CB pecking order would be;

    1. Colo
    2. Taylor
    3. Williamson
    4. Tomkins

    Not bad at all.

And leaves Perchinho free to cover his best position of defensive midfielder <whistle>

Yeah would be good, although I think Tomkins would be 3rd and Willo 4th tbh. Also, Perch should be told to **** off out of our club if we do sign another player. Gives 100%, but is a proper **** footballer haha.

Personally I don't rate Tomkins very highly at all. From what i've seen he is inconsistent ... puts in a great tackle one minute and then is caught hopelessly out of position the next.

SSN said that Pardew gave him his first contract at West Ham so maybe he see's him as a protege.

£4m though is too much for a player who in my opinion isn't as good as Willo. After all we only payed £1.5m (?) for him.

In a funny way I could actually quite like Perch as long as he stays as a substitute defensive midfielder.

Now to explain my thinking behind this shock statement.

When used as a defensive midfielder he comes on with 10 or 15 mins to go to see the game out if we are winning. For example last night when he came on for Cabaye, and in October when he came on v Stoke when we were winning.

So on conclusion, I'm starting to associate Perch with that winning feeling*

*(so long as he never starts, or plays in defence <ok>)

West Ham fans rate him highly, one for the future but seems to have improved. If we can get him for 4 million that leaves us with half of our January budget (if rumours are to be believed) to look for a young LB/midfielder/striker

Was on Sky Sports News that we have had £2.5m rejected today for him, but they think he has handed in transfer request so I think it might well happen. If we get him, then don't mind after that. Unless we sell anybody, I will be quite satisfied with our squad.

Not based on what we've previously in the PL though JDT. He looked absolute ****e and out of his depth. I can only assume given the interest (we're not alone) that the year in the fizzy pop has improved him. Couldnt comment on whether he was a very good player now, can't watch fat sams bore approach, but I do know he was not a very good player last time he was in the PL. That said he is very young and centre halfs in particular never really get anywhere near their best until their 25 as Saylor has shown. I think he likes to play so maybe Pardew sees him as Colos long term successor, and his cover in the meantime. Makes sense because Willo is a lesser version of Saylor so we would have nice balance in our 4 options.
