Chichester Town FC were in the draw for the 1st round proper of the FA Cup this evening for the first time since 1960.
Because of Bury’s demise there was an odd number of teams in the draw, so the ‘spare’ team got an automatic bye into Round 2 and a guaranteed £36,000 for not even kicking a ball in Round 1.
Chichester Town was that club that got the bye, then immediately announced that they’d make a contribution to Bury.
Great gesture.
A PL team like near neighbours Manchester City could’ve sorted Bury without missing a step.
