And Schurrle and replaced them both with Cuadrado.
Salah was loaned to Fiorentina as part of that deal and the sold to Roma for €12m.
Doesn't look like the best bit of business with the benefit of hindsight! <laugh>

None of our selling has been smart in recent times to be honest.
A list of players we have recently sold:

De Bruyne
Salah
Lukaku
Matic
Schurrle
Bertrand

<doh> We dun' ****ed up!

Why weren't United and Chelsea etc. Interested in Salah?

Must not be all that.
We were, we bought him, he sucked for us.
So we sold him.....:p
How did being a smart arse work out for you? Besides Salah improved out of all recognition, Alderweireld has been at the same level for several years. He turns 30 next year. He performed at exactly the level everyone expected at Spurs, it's just strange that now that greed has overtaken him he's suddenly the best there is. We'll see, but maybe playing with Vertonghen with Wanyama/Dier in front of him and Walker/Rose beside him made him look better than he is.

Some of them didn't make a lot of sense at the time either, in my opinion.
De Bruyne, Salah, Lukaku and Matic were all quite odd ones. I think that they outscored you in the league last season, too! <laugh>

You boys thought he was the best defender ever before he was dropped by hochy pochy.

He wasn't dropped. He got injured on the 1st of November against Real Madrid. We won anyway.

He's a very good centre-half and we'll miss him when he goes, but Sanchez did a good job in his absence.
Our win percentage actually went up without him, strangely.

agreed, but since he's been back, poch has (most people theorising) that he isn't playing toby (as with walker last season) because he wants to leave.

Anyway, my response was more to SD who thinks that Toby is not world class anymore because he's not in poches good books.

You can make an argument for how well he's going to recover from his injury but most of you thought he was the best in the world last year and the year before

Toby Alderweireld could be heading to United and Tottenham boss Mauricio Pochettino is OK to let him go.
Alderweireld has become one of the best Premier League defenders around since joining Tottenham in 2015.
But the 29-year-old is looking to leave the north London club this summer to secure a major bump in wages.
Sky Sports report that Pochettino is 'happy to sanction' the Belgian’s move to United despite selling to a title rival.

@Hoddle Is A God

I hope it happens.

The system that Pochettino plays appears to be
most important for the Spurs defence. So much so that
with both Toby and Wanyama out for so much of last
season, the GA count was only +1 on 2015-16 (when
Toby played nearly all season and Wanyama was not there) .

He’s still a very good defender, no doubt. However he’s knocking on 30, has had a lengthy injury to his hamstring - the kind that tends to go again and again once it’s been damaged. If we can get silly money for him it makes sense to sell and strengthen for the future.

He's an exceptional centre-half and suits our system very well, as well as having a very good understanding with Jan Vertonghen.
His injury problems do seem to be becoming more of an issue, though.

I think that he's already been tapped up, just as Kyle Walker was last season.
Sell him, bring in someone with a lot of potential and move on. Sanchez has earned his place in the starting XI, for me.

there you go boys, admitting he's world class but he may be on the wane especially after his injuries rather than re-writing history that he was only good but not world class. <ok>.

I can get on board with that

I'm sure you'll show us loads of cited postings on
not606 to support this, as my searches a couple of
weeks ago on "Toby world class" and "Alderweireld
world class" found so little (most of which was in
postings made by SOTON supporters) ...

I'm glad you asked.

presumably putting toby alongside alli and kane means you think he's in the top 4 (you voted wanyama as the best that year)

Heres one from spursdisciple too

I won't bother getting the actual big threads calling Toby the best in the world

I'm glad you asked....

I will wager you £100, for a charity of choice for
the winner, that you will find no posting of mine
where I have stated that Toby is "world class" ,
the "best in the world" etc.

Do you accept the wager (an easy 100 quid for a
charity of your choice methinks) ... ??
