On his hopes for the rest of the season:
Yes, but ironic justice would be Everton finishing fourth and some other team outside the top four, United or whoever, winning the CL and pushing them out -
as should have happened in 2005. It's often -deliberately?- overlooked that the year before in 2004, before the CL quarter final between Arsenal and Chelsea, that both teams had been assured that if they won the CL but finished outside the top four that the fourth placed team would 'drop' to the then Uefa cup at their expense. There was also, of course, the precedent of Zaragoza and Madrid in 2000 when those exact circumstances occurred, and they too had nothing written in their rules for that happening, but took advice from Uefa.
Truth is, based upon precedence and what the Premier League had told Arsenal and Chelsea the year before, that Everton were VERY lucky to attain their eventual futile attempt at CL football, and Barwick **** himself, scared of being labelled a Liverpool supporter denying plucky little Everton their 'rightful' place in the sun. Karma indeed, if their second team denied them this time.
That said, I don't wish this to happen. As long as we get CL football and united don't I'd love Everton to get it too. And win the FA cup. Plus I don't want there to be a meltdown in Denbigh if United did shove them out of the CL, though I suspect they have scarves for both teams anyway.
