In October 1982, when that match was played, the North Stand wasn't there, the supermarket was getting built on the site. Think rugby, think hype.

'Think rugby, think hype'
I had an heated argument on Friday with a Fc fan who claims Hull Fc saved Hull City from bankrupcy when 'they shut the gates at Boothferry Park'??
'They' means David Lloyd who owned Hull Fc then, according to this Arlie Bird, when I always thought Lloyd bought Fc, after he bought City with the idea of merging both clubs and calling them Hull Tiger Sharks. The plan was to sell Boothferry Park and move both clubs to the Boulevard.......until he saw it and it fell way short of Football League standards to stage league games. The main stand was actually operating without a valid safety certificate, which was kept quiet by HCC. It was falling to bits, with planks for seating and subsidence.
Lloyd split the club ( City) from the stadium ( Boothferry Park) which he kept ownership of, without realising Grandways had a 100 year lease on the supermarket, and sold the club to Hinchcliffe and Buchanan, if they actually paid for it is another matter.
When the above, aka as The Sheffield Mafia, were running up debts all over the place and not paying for anything including the rent of the ground, Lloyd locked the gates in a pre arranged move to prevent the dubious Sheffield duo getting their hands on anymore cash.
It worked too.
Adam Pearson was in waiting and he bought the club.
It had sod all to do with Hull Fc, in fact there may still be posters on here who remember City bailing out Fc with the proceeds from the Newcastle League Cup tie, net £300k? which was allegedly shifted over to the Boulevard, where some of City's staff were working from at the time, to tidy the place up for the Football League inspection with a view to City playing there, and it still failed the inspection. Money wasted.
But a little thing like the truth often gets in the way when discussing the merits and popularity of RL in Hull over football.
