Toppy this years supreme is coming close to your beloved Al Ferofs supreme race, Eight subsequent winners from 14 runners, five at Grade One level.
Pretty impressive- I think it is the front 3 -Altior, Min & Buveur D'air- to concentrate on (similar to 2011's 4- Al Ferof, Spirit Son, Sprinter Sacre, Cue Card). Part of me does wonder if Buveur D'air should stick to hurdles though. Altior is a monster, and Min looks like he has taken brilliantly to fences and he might have a King George in him somewhere in time. Buveur was impressive at the finish on chase debut but was efficient rather than spectacular over the big obstacles. He travelled superbly in the Supreme, and lost a bit of ground turning in before gaining on Min at the finish. Any give in the ground and I'd strongly fancy him to win a Champion hurdle. I love Yanworth but he will need it to be a real end to end gallop to prevail (not impossible of course) and with Annie and Faugheen yet to run this year, it wouldn't be the craziest idea in the world for JP to throw two arrows at the Champion Hurdle. Petit Mouchoir winning today at Leopardstown looks to be a race short of depth. Nichols Canyon needs to go up in trip if he is ever to win a Grade 1 and Jers Girl now looks a touch short of top level in open company. MIN is catching my eye for the JLT at the minute and I am sorely tempted to have a small chance on him in that as I think he would hack up in that instead of a rematch with Altior and would not be surprised to see Yorkhill take on Altior OR switch to the Champion Hurdle.
