I know. This Paraguayan bloke is completely overweight and was barely over the half way line by the time the challenge went in. He didn't have a scooby dooby doo what happened.

Nice cynical foul by Gaston as Ecuador race down the flank to attack Uruguay's goal with 1 minute to go.

    Yellow card for Ramirez.

Second yellow and a red for Valencia.

Players going mental and pushing foreheads into the referee's face.

Don't know what game you were watching.I'm getting very, very worried with England at the moment.

Seems like all the good young english players of the future will be all from Southampton if things continue at this rate.

We were average against Moldova (pub team), I thought Moldova were a poor side, but they just took the piss, they were pub team standard at best.Worst team I've ever seen.

Our players found it hard to control the ball against Ukraine, I don't think the crap pitch helped.

We need to beat sides like Ukraine at home.

We'll be like the new Wales if we keep this up.

    Horrible,horrible football that we're playing.

I say pick football league players, and they will play better football.

Get a proper groundsman to work at Wembley as well, the grass is way too thick and heavy.

What game were you watching? It was dreadful.

It's a shocking system that we are playing. What the hell is Milner? He is a Donkey, that's what he is.One dimensional.

Gerrard out, Milner out, Frankenstein out. When Rooney gets back, never play him again as well. What a horrible man he is.

It was funny to see him in pain when he got injured, Karma is a bitch Rooney.

I'll post the same thing on here as I did on the off-topic thread:

They played far better than they ever did at the Euros. They didn't play any stupid long balls, the passing was good between Gerrard, Lampard and Cleverley, they ran at the opposition defence, got crosses in from dangerous areas, got in decent positions and created several good chances. Glen Johnson was fantastic all game and was a nightmare for their left-back, Defoe scored a perfectly good goal that was disallowed, and Welbeck got into excellent positions in the box. Cleverley should have got one, and Welbeck should have got a couple. It was a performance that deserved 4 or 5 goals.

    There were two things missing:

    1) Clinical finishing.
    2) Midfielders' defensive responsibilities. Lampard and Gerrard playing as the two deepest CMs is good for the passing game, but they don't do enough when closing down the opposition. Gerrard didn't get tight enough for Ukraine's goal, and it's partly because he's not a defensive player. With someone like Rodwell in the team, that would be much less of a problem.

Let's not forget Ukraine are a very talented team, with some excellent players. They were still second best though and were lucky to get a point. It took a wonder goal and a lot of luck at the back to get it.

Ukraine played very well.Ukraine's goal was a result of Gerrard being so slow to keep up with the Ukranian lad who went on to score.

Lampard hoofed the ball up to Defoe several times and so did Gerrard.

    What is Milner doing?<doh>.

Ukraine are a decent side, but we should be beating them at home. This just shows how poor the England team is now.

England played some shocking football at times.

England were not shocking...just needed better finishing or be lucky (the latter being often the most important thing). This was always going to be the tough game in the group and we had several absentees which limited the changes that Hodgson could make.

To me it was a pretty entertaining game to watch with both teams playing possession football mostly, with some good passing. It was frustrating at times due to poor finishing, bad luck and an inconsistant referee, but would sooner see England attempting to play like this rather than constant long ball tactics. However when things are not going well playing this sytem it would be good to see them being able to change formation mid-game and bring on a Carroll/Lambert type forward to get a goal. Thought that the Ukraine were a very good skillfull side and they defended well when England were attacking them in the latter part of the game. What ever JT may be as a man he is still Englands best CB, and they missed him last night.

Did anyone see the Uruguay game? Few bad results for them, would have expected at least a point against Colombia and 3 points v Ecuador. I see Ramirez played the full game so far, anyone see how he got on? Looking forward to the Arsenal game.

P.S First post here, season ticket holder in Northam, been lurking this site for a good few years. I was there when we were losing at home to Swindon. How time's change eh?

If Defoe's goal hadn't been ruled out or Cleverly hadn't missed that sitter, we'd probably have won and we'd be painting a very different picture. Despite the reult, England played better against Ukraine this time around than they did at the Euros. It's progress even if it's not perfect.

If you were the manager, who would you pick? Do be specific as we really want to know who these mysterious players that we should be picking are!

How can you say Ukraine are decent & played well yet we were poor but should have won?! These teams are more than capable of giving us a run for our money,it is naive to expect easy wins. England are in trannsition but can only move forward & change their ideals rather than immediately jumping on their backs.Dinosaur football will leave England lagging.
