You're quite right, zeller. It's becoming hard work and rapidly losing it's allure as a fun place to post/read/discuss.

We all know why, however. It's simply because from a relatively strong position around xmas, we're now embroiled in a relegation battle - albeit not as deeply as some, but we are in it. Some think "At this rate we're doomed..." while others philosophy is "If we all stay strong and pull together in the same direction..."

It's a nervous, worrying and unfortunate time and everyone has their own way of dealing with it - hence the collision of viewpoints which have recently started to lead to insults and name calling and ignore buttons.

There is an answer. Get this frickin' season over with ASAP with us on the right side of that dotted line and I can guarantee harmony will be restored - to Dave, Maestro and DH's relief! <peacedove> <ok>

I agree that if we stay up the really nasty stuff will stop. But there'll still be quite a difference of opinion, I'm certain. To be honest, I'm not even sure what I think myself about Hughton and the future, let alone other people.

If we stay up, part of me says he's done what he was tasked to do and therefore he obviously deserves at least part of next season to show us that he can take us forward. Added to that, his signings have largely been successful, and he is clearly a manager who likes to work with his own players of choice, so maybe he can really stride on next season once most of the squad are his personal choice. His past record is excellent and maybe he has more than he has shown so far.

But another part of me says this season suggests that his limitations as a manager are so fundamental and so severe that keeping him will mean that AT BEST we become the Stoke of the next generation, the team who make neutrals groan when we are chosen as the televised match, the ugliest team in town. As I've said before, it's CH's rigidity and failure to learn and adapt that worries me most. He has failed to adapt to many of Lambert's key squad members, he plays the same players and formation game after game after game even if the performances are shocking, and he seems completely incapable of intervening meaningfully during a match in terms of substitutions. For a 'youngish' manager he has something of the look of a dinosaur about him, as if the world has moved on and left him behind (Martin O'Neill without the history).

I suspect that if we go down, the groundswell of opinion will be so strong that McNally will move and he will be gone before June is out. If we stay up, I really don't know what I feel. And even if we start behaving more nicely towards each other on here, that conflict will probably remain unresolved inside most of us. Eventually, I predict, most people will be willing to give him more time, but they'll do it with a heavy heart.

Excuse me, but I just checked this thread twice and Beefy has not yet posted on it.

So therefore, comments such as

exacerbate, rather than help to quell the issue the thread was raised about in the first place <doh> This is a completely different thread, carrabuh, yet you insist on dragging it into the gutter where all the other recent ones end up. Pathetic. <grr>

I was under the impression the article was about how people react to other people. Its more relevant on here than on any other thread to be honest.

I have to just state my op was not aimed at anyone in general just the atmosphere and animosity and the childish/school ground behaviour that I don't expect from my kids let alone adults. I am not a regular poster unless I have something constructive to add but read and visit at least twice a day but that lure and appeal is being diminished.

I agree with the origional sentiment started by this thread as it is the main reason I rarely post now. If I am fully honest, for me there is one main person who creates the most strife if you look back through the threads (not on this thread at all as all those who are I have no problem with ) and it is not Carrabuh who's views I find particularly well structured and mostly agree with. I know it is appreciated and not an easy role, but I would venture to say that the moderators rarely seem to see this, which to me is obvious (happy to PM them if they want).

Even this person is entitled to their views and does submit mostly decent points, however they do have a large tendency to upset others with disrespect and simply not chose to agree to disagree.

I miss carra rud, weaver and many others from 606 where there was little of this (although may good people have come across). If you look at the Pareto principle, if you target resolving the biggest issue causing problems the majority go away. It is like where I work now where one or two people unfortunately spoil it for the others but even then they are entitled to views and opinions.

I agree totally, although we may be referring to different folk, just use the ignore button it does make a difference
